Can we at least have a decent forum to enjoy the b1tching in?

Since this place appears to be a venue for b1tch fights and constant running battles, can we at least have a more modern and functional environment in which to enjoy the entertainment?

Like an upgrade in VBulletin software perhaps?

It would be much more enjoyable to watch the fighting take place from the warmth of my leather chair, overlooking the mountains, playing with colorful pictures of my truck, chatting with members, being able to edit text more easily than having to copy and paste what I want bolded into another box, having an aesthetically pleasing environment with more features and better accessibility, prettier pictures, colorful signatures, and sexy avatars, and even having the ability to multi-quote. All whilst browsing well organized libraries and conducting accurate searches, as I preview new threads and posts.

And a modern and accessible forum will attract even more members and sponsors, increasing the numbers of spectators for these fantastic events. I have no problem contributing to any financial requests in order to achieve such a place. This forum is decent but the potential it holds is phenomenal with a little vision and work.

Ask yourself, would you rather watch a fight in a back alley gym in Detroit or at the Coliseum in Rome?

While I don't understand half of the jargon you just said in your post. I can dig the idea of an upgrade. Not sure if its a software problem, but this website is temporarily down way too often. I know its not my computer because all of the other forums I check out still work fine. It's never for long, but it sure is annoying.

Which words did you not understand? Let me know and I will explain them to you.

Here's the cliff notes for those somewhat impaired:

1. The current forum software is poor and lacks many features that would make it smoother and more accessible
2. It would be nice for the members and the community if the forum was upgraded to a more modern VBulletin model
3. I will personally pay for the costs involved if necessary
4. Quit the b1tching
5. Or people can keep on b1tching but at least let the other members enjoy it over a modern medium

where can I view an updated version of vbulletin? IMHO all the 4runner forums suck format wise..... toyota120, and yotatech both are annoying for me to navigate...... this one is easier but I guess could use an upgrade... its been the same since I started.

Yeah I noticed a lot of the Toyota forums are really bad also. This is the only forum that I am a member of though. And don't get me wrong, its a great place, with lots of great info and good people. The software just needs updating that's all.

Yep, it's pretty cheap to upgrade. A couple of hundred bucks here or there if that.

Back when the the april fools thing was going on, and they were talking about charging a fee for membership on this site, i went and prepared for the worst.....

Now, this forum has been closed until just now, (i had it completely down). I only put it up just now so everyone can get a look at the newer vbulletin software....

Maybe we can convince greg to make the change here...

I was prepared to put the site on a dedicated server at theplanet, and hadn't yet put all the mods on vbulletin that I was going to, but you get the idea.... I have the customized skin etc, that I would be happy to give up to t4r.org if they upgrade to the new software also.

Oh and if the mods are looking at this, I am only going to leave this up for demonstration purposes for a few days, after that I'm going to turn the site off again and link back to t4r.org.

My intention was never to put up a competing forum, unless you guys started charging.

Very nice platform to work from. Very clean and modern and it looks like you can implement all the modern features on the site. With a customized template and some tweaks here and there it would be good to go.

If i thought greg would go for it, i'd love to help admin this forum... I'd cover the vbulletin licence, and a dedicated box (including managing it) at a premier datacenter. That way we could get rid of all the lag issues and db problems.

I actually work in IS/IT, so that wouldn't be an issue, i just figured Greg would never go for it...

Also, i have a list of mods, and template changes I was going to make... They just announced the "fee" thing was a joke before I implemented it all.

I've done so in the past and it's just generally tough to convince owners it's a good idea to allow someone they don't know (personally) access to virtually everything. It's very understandable actually, anyone could claim to know what they are doing and create a complete mess.

That being said, i may send greg an e-mail with my contact info, so that if he's ever interested he can hit me up for whatever server/tech help he needs or wants. I guess trying never hurts.

I'm like you, i think the community here is great, but the site could really expand and draw more users if it was upgraded, and certain mods were added to help promote guides/instructions and photo's etc.

Also the database issues need to be resolved.... Thats probably the one thing that aggravates me the most.

The longer the forum stays at 2.2.8 and the newer software goes up in versions , the longer it takes to do . I did one recently , took it from 3.01 to 3.6.8 and it took me an hour or so. You have to own a VBulletin license and the upgrade software is free when you have the license . The upgrade has been discussed to death here . Someone just needs to sit down for a couple hours and do it . Its not hard to do . I would be happy to lend a hand .

I moved it to Comments and Suggestions because that is where it should have been placed originally. But in line with GatorGreg's post, please realize that we anticipate that the comments will be constructive and not just complaints.
