Just wondering if the 2020+ 4Runners Instrument Cluster can be installed into my 2015 4Runner?
I’ve seen a few on eBay. I’m looking at ways to modernize my 2015 rather than upgrade to a 2020 4Runner since it’s getting redesigned next year anyway. Not 100% sure it’s worth it but just thought I would ask.
This is actually illegal, people do it swapping clusters to change their mileage.
Example:
Your machine has 150,000 miles, you are ready to trade it in and in hopes of getting a higher resale value, you find a cluster with low mileage and put in.
You put a cluster in with low mileage and take it to the dealer to try to trade in and get a higher trade value.
This is quite illegal, the mileage is stored in the cluster, not the ECU, so whatever cluster you get will have the mileage that persons vehicle had. Tampering with the mileage on a vehicle is a pretty big no-no and as far as i know, there is no way to reprogram the mileage in the cluster to have a newer, low mileage cluster reprogrammed to match yours BECAUSE, if you could reprogram the mileage in the clusters, everyone would do it to turn back their miles to get more money at resale *illegal*
If i remember correct, the standard and SR5 vehicles had the basic solid orange cluster back in 2015 correct? The sensible upgrade would be the Limited cluster out of the same model, which has the better looking cluster with white background with orange needles. Again, changing the cluster is going to change the mileage, so if you must, i would recommend finding something that has a close match to your mileage or forgo doing it all together cause its kinda bad news.

not sure if you have looked into the SMD LEDs, you can change the color of your cluster to practically anyting you want with new LEDs soldered on the boards, i used to do this years ago. I started out in cars and trucks and atvs, doing different colored dash LEDs and had a pretty big business doing it before i turned to other avenues. Read up on changing the dash LEDs, if you have some mechanical ability its not that hard and soldering the LEDs isnt hard at all. I learned on my own personal ATV in like 2006 or 2007, then stretched it to friends machines, then our vehicles, then started doing them for people all over the country. Its not hard and you can change the colors and that is basically what the Limited did, just had white background vs your ornage background.
