Cannot get keyless to work, i popped the cover off my hatch and saw this.....

I bought my 2000 LTD 4Runner used, and have been trying to get my keyless to work. I was given 2 remotes with the truck (FCC ID:HYQ12BAN), but even after new batteries and trying the re-programming instructions on here I cannot seem to get the remotes to program. So I did more research on here, and decided to try to find the keyless entry "brain" to confirm the FCC ID of the remotes i need. So i pulled the cover off the back of the hatch, and found this box:

the FCC ID is HYQ13BAN and part number 85930-35060. It says power window relay. I am not sure that this is the correct module for the keyless entry, because i searched ebay and I cannot find any remotes with the FCC ID of HYQ13BAE.

Does anyone else know where the "brain" is for the keyless entry in a 2000 4runner?

Do you have the red LED on your dash? The box is normally located under the driver seat, its black. The orange box above is the relay for your rear window. As far as programming goes it has to be done perfectly or it won't sync. What directions are you using? Is it this:
-Open drivers door
-Key in ingnition & remove(don't turn)
-Close door, open door
-Unlock and lock doors 5 times
-Close and open door
-Unlock and lock doors 5 times
-Close door
-Insert key turn on and off 2 times
-Remove key
If it honks you got a remote, If not you may need to go down to your stealership and dish out the dough for them to program it (+/- $35).

Then you do the hookie pokie and you turn yourself around, that's what it's all about...

I have good news and bad news.

1. Good news: You have a factory installed system. (Dealer install doesn't include back window control).

2. Bad news: Your trying to program the Sequoia remote. They look identical except for the FCC I. D.

Sequoia = HYQ12BAN

4Runner = HYQ1512Y

but it wasn't Obsolete in 2001, when they rolled out your vehicle in 2000. :nerd:

Thanks for the replies everyone! I will try to get the correct remotes on Ebay, but first I want to find the actual "brain" of the system - to 100% confirm the FCC ID that i need.

I will post up again if/when i find the "brain" under the dash area.

I can appreciate your apprehension going forward. I can only imagine the conversation with the seller when they initially didn't work. I'm sure that unless he/she said "Hey by the way these don't work because they are the wrong ones." Then they lied.

The first 3 digits of the FCC I. D. signify the organization that applied for approval (Toyota) the rest of the digits refer to the technology. I.E.

Window... long hold window down. ONLY DOWN.
Door... one press unlock, one press lock, two quick press unlock all.
Panic...press and get horn.
Remote start... don't ask me.

So now there are the receivers: and now we also know that for the rear window it's HYQ (Toyota) and 13BAE and we can guess what the lock receiver might be; unless you've seen it.

So what I'm getting at is... what is the "Brain" going to have printed on it?

Answer: it doesn't matter. Because the FCC I.D. for the remote key fob is HYQ1512Y
