Cannot get out of 4WD

My wife needed 4WD to get back to our woodpile with the trailer. She used the electronic engagement button on the stick (2001 model), but now we cant unlock the 4WD. :hurt:

How easy is it to get to the switches? Just drop the skidplate? Does anyone have pictures of the location of the position switches for the transfer case actuator ?

I've had this issue once before, and driving a decent distance in reverse took care of it for me. Sometimes my rig takes longer than I'd like to make the switch so I click it back to 4h with the button and wait a short distance before trying again.

Have you tried either of these things? Will it engage back to 4h with no flashing?

sounds like the exact oppostie of my car. i cant get into 4wd........ cause my t4r is a 2wd

No, it will not stop flashing. Only drove it a short distance to disengage it. It is snowing really hard with ice mixed in, so it's gonna sit in the garage for a couple of days.

The stick is in 2H. The 4wd button is not no worky (other than go in and out ).

He has the multi-mode 4wd not the J shift so he can't just pull it to 4wd. On rare occasion the actuator can freeze or go out. It takes a good 30 mintes in my experience when that happens to keep playing around with it and get to to unstick if you can. Just do as previous post said. Drive it for a bit and switch into and out of 4wd to try and unbind the actuator and get it to release. Try to turn your wheel fully locked each direction as well while going below 5mph and it may release. Good luck.

Sorry I am not much help here. Have you tried the good ol, turn it off and on again? (unplug battery for 30 min, replug)

It gets sticky if it's not engaged from time to time. I was able to get mine to work by giving it some time driving straight and slow. My center diff is still sticky. To get it out, I sometimes have to give it a quick pump of gas.

Driving straight, no more than 30-40 mph, hit the button, let it coast for a few seconds, then pump the gas once quickly, then coast for a sec. Repeat a few times, see if that gets it to shake out. If it works, you're in luck. I was able to do this routine repeatedly and work out the kinks. My 4wd works flawlessly now. I have an '01 also.
