can't figure out my 4wd

hi everyone. so two weeks ago i bought a 2007 4runner sport v8 4wd. i'm trying to figure out how to engage the 4H mode. i've tried engaging it stopped, i've tried engaging is moving (coasting without accceleration), i've tried engaging it moving with my foot on the gas... nothing. no light comes on. nothing at all happens.

i can, however, engage 4L (these are the only 2 options i have... the dial on the dash says 4H and 4L, no 2H). is there something i'm missing here??

any help would be appreciated. i called my local dealer and was told i needed to shift the handle on my right hand side... to which i responded that there isn't a handle, only a push-button control on the dash.

anyway, i've done a search and see a little bit of info, but can't seem to make out what i'm not getting.

v8 is always in 4H

The v8 is always in 4H and without a 2H selection(v6 only). Your only other option is 4L, which you need to be in N to engage properly.

The V8's are full time 4WD.
 
Um, you are always in 4Hi. The V8 is full time 4 wheel drive. If you are driving, your driving in 4X4. Only the V6 Runner has the 2 wheel drive option.

i thought that might be the case and then when i called the dealer he said "no. it's a 2wd with 4wd capabilities." i doubted him when he said that since it was after the "shift the handle on the right" comment.

i knew you guys would set it straight.

well it sure is shatty that no one told you your new truck was AWD, but now u know, and as we all know, knowing is atleast half the battle ;-)
 
I'd bring it in during normal business hours in front of as many other customers as possible and ask the dealer why he advised you that you have 2wd selectable... When I was looking for mine with the 3rd row, the dealer showed me a highlander.. When I said this looks different that the 4runner, he said it was a newer model... HAHAHA!!! Needless to say, I didn't go back to that dealer.
