Can't find a KDSS 4R

..Problem is..I cant find one around my area to test drive ..within 100 miles...I swear dealing with the dealers is painful also..they have no clue about the autos that they sell!

After all my research im pretty confident that a TE KDSS would be good for me..especially after talking to Toytec about the coilovers I would use in it to tighten up the suspension..

I just need to test drive one lol ! That is proving to be difficult !

Is it because its a 2014 im looking for and its January or is that just a very uncommon auto to have on lots?

Any suggestions??

That's not a problem with KDSS.

More of a problem with your local dealers having limited stock for a hard to find trim.

Go test drive a used 2010-2013 or new 2013 with Trail with KDSS. I don't think they changed anything with the suspension. Are you unable to find a 2010-2013 with KDSS to test drive in your area?

TE's are rare in general. KDSS has become a bit of a unicorn for this model year on top of that. I was told by multiple dealers in the Gulf States region that there's not a single one in the area, nor would one be coming to the region in the next year. I'd have to order one, or go out of state.

I probably committed a big no-no by not driving a KDSS equipped 4r before ordering one, but after driving the other models, and not being disappointed by either of them, as well as absorbing all the information available on this site, I feel like I'm actually making the right decision. :flamethrwoer2:

I'm not saying you should do what I did. I'm just letting you know you weren't the only one with troubles, and what I did to overcome them... I guess you can say I overcame them. ha

Yea I know theres nothing wrong with the KDSS..was a lil joke ..:fear:

I cant seem to find any in my area (2013 either) North east..and the Toyota web site is prob. the worst auto website I have ever used.

Tried to suggest the consideration of a 2013 with quality mods already done. Mods are time consuming and costly. Just add a bumper to that truck and you'd have quite a unique vehicle in NYC.

On the other hand, if you're set on a 2014, NC is a bit far for a test drive.
 
Oh yea your right.. Kinda like the new faces of the 14s tho.

I'm curious how much of a difference it would be if I grabbed a 14 sr5 instead.. And did the toytec coilovers in it... Id be missing the beefy sway bars tho that's in the TE...
 
6% are TE's. Around half of that have KDSS. You will probably have to drive a long way to test drive. That percentage is not spread equally around the US either.

Yea ;l so I'm seeing..

Well like I just started in above... I can either order blind n have one built... Or go with the sr5..and hook up the suspension with some coilovers.

YOLO dude. Seriously if you have driven the SR5 and you like it except for corners go ahead and order the TE with KDSS. I had a SR5 for 66K miles and traded for te TE with KDSS. The on road handling is very good. I would not even worry about modding the TE suspension until you have driven it for awhile.

Let me reemphasize what [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] is saying, I took one and only one test drive of any 4runner before I bought it. Went out for a quick spin in a KDSS equipped model on the highway, came back to the dealer and bought it. Didn't even care to feel how an SR5 or LE handled after that one drive. Yep, it's that good, lol.

If you are dead set against an LE's styling (with the XREAS) and you don't plan on major suspension mods, then get the KDSS and don't look back.

Screw that guy selling this '13 in the link, he's a real piece of work... agreed to purchase that vehicle back in NOV. Had check in hand, 2 hrs into the drive to go pick it up and he sends me a txt and backed out... ****ing turd :flipoff:

Glad it happened though cuz I ended up getting a '14 TE w/ KDSS, much happier! :cheers:
 
I spent a lot of time looking for my 2014 TE Premium w/ KDSS and appears most of them were allocated to Toyota's Mountain States Region. As others have said, you're either going to have to build one or bite the bullet and go out of state to buy one and drive it back.

I could not find any in the Gulf States so I had to drive my 11' Limited 13 hours to Phoenix and trade it in for the 14' and then drive 13 hours home. I had never driven a KDSS T4R before this but I can tell you, you're making a mistake if you get one without it.

If you're simply buying a car, flying there and driving it home is not that big of a deal. Never settle on a car as you're going to regret it later. Get exactly what you're looking for.

I will say that driving to and from Phoenix was brutal. Wouldn't have been so bad if I just flew out and drove back but driving both ways was extreme.

Thanks 4 all the advice guys...Im sure the KDSS system is what you all say...it wouldn't be stock in the Lexus GX if it wasn't. :)
 
I found a Salsa Red, 2011 TE (KDSS equipped) with 33k miles for 30K. Newer All-terrain KOs and equipped with sliders. Problem is that it is on the West Coast and I'm on the East. Worth it? Or just go pay the extra couple thousand for a newer body styled 2014? Thoughts & input please..

This is an old thread. But KDSS is something of a personal preference. Some want it - some don't. It was a must have for me. KDSS is pretty common here in Utah. I don't think I've ever seen a Trail Edition without it here. The dealer I bought my 4runner from in Montana had 3 in stock with KDSS, so it was super easy to test drive an SR5, a Trail with KDSS, and a Ltd with x-reas back to back. For me - after driving all 3 a few times, KDSS was what I wanted and well worth the $.

Others have found that they prefer the SR5 with aftermarket suspension.
