Bought an '07 4Runner Sport a couple weeks ago and was glad that the factory audio system (6-disc changer non JBL) has the AUX port already built in to the center console, however I can't get the head unit to switch to AUX mode to use. I figure you just hit the CD/AUX button on the head unit but it won't switch from playing my CD to AUX mode. I've also tried using the steering wheel mounted MODE button and it cycles through FM1, FM2, AM, CD but won't ever recognize AUX. Am I missing something here? I'm using the same cable and same Ipod Shuffle that successfully works in my Lexus IS350's AUX port. Any help or tips are greatly appreciated. I've tried to further push the cable into the port but it's in all the way and won't go any further. I did notice one time when I was using the MODE button on the steering wheel, AUX was briefly shown on the screen but quickly cycled to the next mode...that was however when nothing was plugged in. If I'm cycling through using the MODE button, should it stop at AUX even when there is nothing plugged in or only when something is plugged in? Frustrating!

Yes. You don't need anything attached to the other end, but the cable must be plugged into the AUX port for the radio to recognize it. Also, the cable must be pushed all the way in. I know I had an issue once because the cable was only half in the port. It's really a tough spot to use, very hard to see so you must do it all by feel. At least that's how I did it.
