Car accident...

Sorry to hear about your accident. I'm glad that both drivers are not serious damaged. If your truck is totaled then it take about 2 to 3 weeks before you can get your check after paying all the you loaned to the bank. If that is the case you can go ahead and start looking for a new 05 4runner and you will still have 1 week rental car after they informed that your truck is totaled. In the other hand, if they decide that your car will be fixed, then it will take you about 2 months.

Regard to your pain. I think it will feel the stiffness in your neck and at your back in about couple days. It that is the case, I would recomend you get a lawyer who will advice you to go to a physical therapy or appropriated doctor to make sure everything is alright.

For right now, try to get your accident report as soon as possible. Don't talk to much to the other's driver's insurrance company. You should fax them the accident report. Also be consistent of what you will report.

Did they arrange you with the rental car?...also, take a rest.

sorry to hear about your accident. i'm glad you were driving the 4runner......i'd hate to see what would happen in a smaller car. hopefully things will be easily resolved for you.
 
Glad you're ok after the accident. Looks like it did cause some major damage to the frame and hopefully the total it. I wouldn't want to drive it if they didn't.

Lucky for you, the 2005 Sport Editions still have the silver bumper trim! Get yourself a V8 2005 and start all over.
 
That sucks. :(

I hope everything works out. My brother was just rear ended in his Tundra by a Kia. Kia is totaled, he needs about $2000 in repairs.

Insist on a comparable rental vehicle from the other drivers insurance. Don't let them put you in a Ford Escort. The Enteprise he went to did not have a full-sized truck. They had to go out and buy a new F-150 for him to use. :o

I read your story and saw your pictures and I all I thought was, "boy I am glad you weren't driving a small car". I have driven small cars most of my life and I think I will stick with bigger vehicles. I still carry a small scar on my face after I got hit in my VW bug in College and that was a long time ago.

Very sorry about your accident and keep us posted as to what happens, especially if you have any medical problems.
 
If there is a chance they might write it off I would contact the garage where it is being kept and talk to them about getting your mods back. Once the insurance process starts the truck can end up being shuttled from one place to another as it gets assessed etc and then you might not see it again.

I know you're a young guy but still, take your injuries or potential injuries seriously. Make sure you talk to your doc about any aches or pains. If you're damaged in any way, you need to be compensated. That's what insurance is for. I know people are often quick to sue in the U.S. but in your case, there is justification.

BTW, could I have your roof rack and steering wheel? ;-)

This is a great point, take all your mods back so you can install them in your new runner. Likelyhood that the insurance will not reimburse you for the cost of your mods.
 
Sorry to hear about the accident... Actually wasn't an <I>"accident"</I> -- more like CARELESSNESS on the part of the other driver! (for which you are entitled to be compensated for any lost wages, pain and suffering, etc) Hope you have a good attorney to help look out for YOUR best interests to make sure the insurance company doesn't screw you on either your medical treatment or the vehicle restoration/replacement.. because you know their insurance co. is going to look out for themselves.

Some great advice from everyone.

I didn't know the Sports had the silver trim, that makes me very happy!

I want to get my HID lights and my safari bar and everything off the truck so I can put it on my new one, one question I have is when they total the truck will it need all the stuff like headlights, steering wheel, etc, or can I gank those things off? If anybody needs some parts and I can get em off without causing any problems then I'll do that for you all, no problem. I'm going to the doctor again tomorrow to get checked out again. This time I'm going to my doctor instead of the random doctor at the hospital. When I was sitting on the curb while everything was getting taken care of and I was looking at my truck, I didn't think it looked that bad either. I saw the tailgate was crunched and the rear bumper was falling off, but I thought it would be drivable still and would only need a few panels replaced. When I found out the extent of the damage I was amazed. My dad already said if we can't get them to write it off we'll go down to the dealership and trade it in on a new truck - there's no chance they'll be able to fix it well enough.

I don't have any information on the other driver, by the time they got her out of the vehicle I was already half way to the hospital. I'm going tomorrow to try and get the full police report with all the information. We're worried she does not have insurance, and if that is the case things like rental car and everything will not be covered. (BS in my opinion)

I hope everything gets taken care of. When you look at all the damage on my truck (which held up very well, I think) and the damage to the driver's seat especially - I'm very lucky to be as well off as I am.

When I get a new truck - whatever is is - you can be sure there will be pictures posted here the same day. :thumb:
 
The way the insurers work out whether to write off a car is they compare the costs of repair with the costs of giving you cash less the amount they anticipate they will salvage from the truck. If they write it off the truck is theirs to salvage - I would be concerned about how they might view you taking things out completely therefore. That said they will only normally offer you up to what you paid for the car (including any special deal you got btw) so I would work to remove your mods and put back the oem parts - hopefully people here can help if you need oem parts to replace things if they have done similar mods recently and have not yet disposed of the originals.

That being said, anybody got an OEM left headlight? I've still got the old right one but I need the left...
 
I agree don't try to remove any parts that you did not add. When my friend was in an accident and his Heep was totaled, he only removed his after market exhaust, and some sliders. He put back the OEM stuff.
 
I just got chance to check T4R and what do I see? Another sad news. First Linhsy and now You. It's good that everyone is Ok. Sorry to see your 4R crashed like that but from pictures it looks that it took pratty well this 60 MPH hit from behind. As for a positive side of this sad news it looks like You are going to get brand new 2005 4Runner beacuse I don't think You could even consider replacing your 4R with something alse... Also You don't have to fix that dent on your door anymore....
Again I'm really sorry and I hope You and that lady won't suffer to much.It is good that You got only small injuries. As they say You can always replace your cars but life is only one....

Wow, I'm really glad you are ok... sorry about your truck. I noted the difference in damage between her car, her injuries and you and your truck. This is exactly why I bought one... well, that and it's cool looks.

Hope you get it replaced soon.
 
Hey there.. sorry bout the accident... glad you are ok.

Just out of curiosity, about what intersection were you at??? The longer I live here (24yrs now...) and the more places I visit, the more I realize how terrible drivers are here. My drive to work is only 8 miles, and i get cut off at least 5 times, see at least 2 accidents on the way to work every day, and typically see 10 or so cars going 15 mph under the speed limit while talking on there phone and putting on makeup..... ahhh.... the free living in AZ... who could resist???

Damm, sounds like you need to get your ride armored in order to avoid damage.
 
:eek: That's a nasty hit to bend your frame like that! It's very lucky that no-one was seriously hurt.

That sucks about your ride. I've had that exact same thing happen to me twice in my RED Toyota pickup -- each time I was stopped at a red light. Does anyone think that maybe women cannot see red or something? :confused:
