Cargo carpet removal help/rear cargo interior trim removal help.

I have searched and can't find what I'm looking for. I need to remove the rear cargo area carpet for cleaning. Some thawed meat juice leaked and I can't get the the smell out. No third row and no sliding deck.

Actually, I think some of the juice seeped between the carpet and the left rear cargo trim panel. Anyone have specs on how to remove that panel?

Here are some instructions I wrote for the passenger side. Pretty much the same minus the power port panel.

I would pull the carpet first. It is a lot of work to get that panel out and there is some space below the panel to get a towel in there to clean up.

"Remove the rear seats. Remove the door sill trim piece. Then start with the hatch area. Start with the floor trim, remove the carpet divider behind the seat. Remove the seat belt. turn and remove the cargo net bracket and bolt behind it. Remove the 2 access disks and the bolts behind them. Remove carpet and Styrofoam then the screw at the base of the wheel well cover. Pop out the cover for the recliner handle. Remove the 2 screws behind that. Pull the taillight cover (but I don't remember if there is a bolt behind there. Pull the outlet panel and disconnect harnesses. Remove the floor tie-downs.

There may be other points that I forgot but that is most of them.

Then grab the plastic panel and the rear and start tugging carefully. There are clips that connect it to the upper panels so make sure you are careful as you are pulling them apart.

If anything gets really stuck, check to see if you missed a bolt or screw somewhere."

You will be doing at least half the work just to clean it up. Use new carpet instead of reusing the bloody carpet.

Thanks for the replies. The carpet looks easier than I would have thought. Remove the rear trim and the front cargo tie down trim piece. Am I missing something?

Anybody have a idea on cost of that piece of carpet?

ETA: decided to go out to the parking lot and popped up the rear trim piece. The carpet easily pulled back from the side and smell is difenently is the padding.

I have a 2014 Trail black exterior with black interior. It seems like the padding is the biggest issue. Baking soda to help absorb some of the odor.

OP just tell the truth. You had a bag of cocaine break open while unloading from a recent Mexico trip and now you want the drug dogs to quit freaking out everytime you drive by one. :becky:

Just rip out the padding and install this. Radiant Barrier
Will give you better heat deflection as well. It comes in several lengths, including 6' and is the same thickness as the stock padding.
