Cargo Tray Removal?

I took two of my bikes to a Toyota dealer the other day to see if they would fit in the back with their front wheels removed. All of their 4Runners on the lot had the cargo tray which I like but it does take up a few inches of vertical space. Can someone tell me if the tray will easily unlock and slide out. I do like the tray but I can see where occasionally it would be useful to remove it.
