Hey, my buddy just got his cat stolen from his 2000 4runner, and I'm trying to get some info for him. Does anyone have a digram of the whole exhaust system? I'm trying to figure out if we could just put a pipe in for now just so he could drive, but im not sure if the 02 sensors were also taken.

Does your friend have a 49 states emissions system or a California emissions system?
I can give you diagrams, but the two setups are different.

It was purchased new here in chicago, so I'm assuming it it 49 states emission system.

Thanks

This seems to be the next new thing. A local paper had an article about it. It seems that the ounce of platinum that's inside is worth some $1,200 bucks or so if you take it to a recycling center.

My sister's boyfriend had it stolen just last week from his raised Toyota Tacoma. He waited half hour for the cops to show up and take the report, and when they did come, they said they have just come from a scene of the exact same crime.

He paid $650 for a new one and had it welded on. But the paper article said these guys are running around with portable saws so not much can be done I guess.

$650?! That sounds like way too much. Then again I haven't priced or replaced cats in a truck or suv. Had em done in a Benz e430 that had 4 of em at $350 a pop

And looking at recycling centers they seem to offer $60-80 for a used cat.

Probably is, but mine came off a lot in Pennsylvania and is Cal spec. Sometimes the dealers take whatever comes off the ship....
I'll get you the pic tomorrow.

hope this helps

There's got to be a way to make a sheild so they cant get it off. They might cut the pipes..but wouldnt be able to slide it off. Im a welder and Im working on some plans. anyone with ideals, post them, because I dont see this slowing down. They even have a guy on craiglist offering to buy them. We have to come up with something

He paid $650 for a new one...

Does anyone see an opportunity here?????

I have seen a security device that will make it more diff to get the Cat off, but if you do that the theif might get pissed that he cannot get it- so he might do more damage... Might be worth it to "cut" your losses and let him have it...

So Help me if i catch someone under my T4R.... you will hear about me on the news...
anyone know where in this country where it's going on most? WEST COAST? EAST COAST?

We made a couple of skid plates for some customers that will work.

Thats a cool skid plate!

What about something that attaches to sliders?

I need to protect my vehicle better too since I live in an apartment now. No telling what goes on in that parking lot at night.

I once went camping and some thieves came up during the night and stole my coleman stove, frying pan and coffee pot that I had sitting on a picnik table not more than 5 feet from where I was sleeping. The one time I didnt bring my dog. Crazy bastids. Im 6'4 and 260 pounds and have studied martial arts for over 35 years. Don't get between me and my coffee! The two kinds of people I hate the worse in this world are bullies and thieves.
