Hey everyone! So I am looking in to getting a small CB kit for my 03 Limited for the groups I go wheeling with as well as sort-of general precaution. There seem to be so many options for every aspect (CBs, antennas, mounts, etc) that I am a little lost. I was hoping someone could verify that I have everything I need in order to mount and wire the CB.
So here is the current "parts" list:
-Cobra 75 All-In-One (Not really looking for a huge CB. The handheld will be fine for me)
-3' Firestik
-Coax cable (Probably 18')
-Comet RS720 Mount
-Stud mount (It looks like this goes on the bottom so the coax can get attached to it right?)
-Quick Disconnect (Not sure if I actually need one. Might be nice to have even if I don't use it a ton)
-Firestik Spring (Definitely going to use one of these. This would just attach to the top of the stud right?)
-Fuse Tap (Just going to be used on something with ignition power only. Something like the seat heater fuse would work right?)
Does this seem like a good list? I am planning on mounting the antenna on the back hatch, and then using some Velcro to mount the little control box under the dash. I'll probably use even more Velcro to mount the CB itself under the 4HiLo switch.
So here are a few of the questions.
1. With the fuse tap, what size fuse do I need to use? I was looking at those fuse taps that hold two fuses. So would I take out the current fuse, plug the fuse tap in, add the old fuse in to one of the slots, and then add a second fuse to the other slot and then crimp the wires together?
2. With the Comet mount, what is the order of attaching things? I am assuming it is (bottom) mount-> stud-> quick disconnect -> spring -> firestik (top). Is that correct?
3. I have read some write ups but I am still trying to figure out the best way to run the coax from the back drivers side to front drivers side. Should I go up the hatch, down the grommet up there, down the driver side back pillar and then along the bottom door foot panels? I am trying to keep it as clean as possible without overdoing it too much (for both myself and my 4runner).
I realize that this is a really long post with a lot of questions, but I really appreciate any and all input here! I've never used a CB before and I want to make sure I get it right the first time around. Also, my friend has a SWR meter to tune my firestik when I get it set up. Thanks again!
