CB or Walkie Talkie - Which one?

I want to purchase a CB or Walkie-Talkie for offroad trip with buddies/members here. Which one should I get? I almost never go offroad by myself. Can CB communication with Talkie-Walkie as long as you all on the same channel?

The new walkie-talkie are a lot better these days. I got a Cobra set--cheap, that was great on the highways. Scrambled channels so others can't jump in on your traffic or understand your traffic. Hi and LO power, maybe 10 mile open range. Headset jack and rechargeable batts or use AA. It can use regular channels( ch10) or scrambled (ch 10.6). 3 years old and still working.

Please be aware that you need a GMRS Radio License if you plan on using the GMRS Frequencies. The license (issued by the FCC) costs $85/ 5yrs and covers your entire family. Having a valid license allows you to run up to 50 watts and allows you to use repeaters (where available and only if you are authorize to use them by the repeater owner). We refer to those small radios that they sell at Best Buy / Circuit City as "bubblepack radios" because they suck and only really put out around 1/2 a watt. Using a handheld inside of a car will greatly reduce your transmitting range because of the steel cage that surrounds you. In order to get decent range, you'll have to get something that allows you to use an external antenna. A mobile CB radio could work well for you. Oh, I forgot to mention, the gmrs license is a "no test license" and it will not cover your buddies, only your family.

i used a motorola walkie talkie from costco, good enough when i was outdoor mountain biking, which is pretty much we were about 1-2 miles apart in the mountains. these should suffice assuming when you go wheeling you and your buds wouldn't be that far apart.
