CB Radio External Speaker?

From all the threads I've read it looks like the general consensus is that Uniden and Cobra radios in the ashtray don't need an external speaker, although most posts are from an initial build phase and don't have updates after some length of ownership. Does anyone find their radio to be rather quiet or wish they'd mounted a speaker elsewhere for their CB?

If you find that you need one I have a brand new one in the box I'll let go for $10 plus shipping. I no longer have a CB so its just taking up space.

I just bought a speaker for my Uniden CB. I could hear it most of the time...but there were times I couldn't. But then again...I'm half deaf due to my time in the Army on tanks!!

I have a Cobra and don't have any trouble hearing mine. The speaker is on the bottom so it's open.

Thanks for the offer. I'm hopeful I won't need one and if I do I sort of want to try to bury a speaker into the headrest or someplace else out of the way.

I'm slightly less deaf so maybe I'll take a chance on the factory setup. The cb will probably only be used while stationary, vehicle off, or crawling slowly somewhere in a pack of vehicles, so with any luck the situations I'd need it for will be quiet enough.

Good to hear. Yeah the Uniden 500 series has a downward firing speaker as well.
