CB Radio issue, help!

welp...thats definite proof that 'frequency modulation' in induced into your wiring at some point. The lights only blink when you speak. So....i'm pretty sure you're getting tired of all the bull shit by now, i would, so if you don't want to answer any more questions, i don't blame ya...I did notice one thing, your antenna is mounted awfully close too your left turn signal, in fact, right in front of it. Could the modulation be induced into your blinker system from there and run up to the front??? who knows, stranger things have happened.....a few more questions...
1) is this a 'no ground plane model' or 'ground plane' model you got?
2) what size antenna did you get?
3) is that a home made bracket for mounting the antenna or manufactured one?
4) when you call for a radio check does anyone come back with a 5x5 & 20 so you get some idea of your distance?
Like I said, if you don't want to fool with it I don't blame ya... but this is solvable...just gonna take a little bit more time....:sobbing:

1) Not sure what you mean? The cable is a firering cable.
2) It is a 4ft firestik
3) the bracket is made by MStudt a member on here
4) yesterday i picked someone up about few miles from me. He said i sounded pretty clear.

*but why would my horn go off also? sometimes?

If you don't mind throwing money at the problem to test different solutions, I'd suggest a Low Pass Filter to reduce or eliminate "harmonics" and see if this resolves your issue.

Euro CB / Syncron TVI/300NLS (F27) Low Pass Filter, 300w, 0.25db insertion loss | eBay

You can also try a different type of antenna (mag mount) and see if this makes any difference. I've used both a 4-foot and a 5-foot Firestik antenna with drifter mount on driver side, as well as Wilson Little Wil (3-ft) and Wilson 1000 (5-ft) mag mount antennas and never experienced what you've described...

You can also try grounding the horn and the mount and anything else you can think of and see if this helps...

What amazes me is. I'm running the same set up. As most guys on here do. I am the only one with this issue.

What is this filter exactly for ?

From what I understand it reduces "harmonics" above 30Mhz which can cause interference with electronics close to the antenna. When you transmit at 27Mhz (CB Band) the signal also resonates at 54Mhz and 81Mhz and so on. The filter lets the original signal pass but greatly reduces anything above. You'll also need a short jumper cable to attach the filter to CB and antenna connects to the filter.

What radio are you using? Is it used? If so, it's possible that it was "modified" at one point and is not working at factory specs. It would be a good idea to test your SWR too, to make sure it's close to 1:1.

You can also try wiring CB radio directly to the battery instead of using fuse panel or cig lighter to see this resolves the issue...

My cb is tuned now. So it's good. It's wired to a aux fuse box. Which the box is right next to the battery.

I mght trythat filter. Again, I don't understand how everyone uses this set up and they are fine. My cb radio is cobra DX

Am I right that you have a 4 watt radio? I find it hard to believe that power level is causing issues. I install 30W radios every week without having such issues. I wonder if it could be a grounding issue.

You told us about the +12V power source, but what did you tie the - lead into?

And do you have a good body ground between the battery - and fender as originally built?

Firestik sells several different models but most important they sell a "No Ground Plane" antenna and a "Ground Plane" antenna. Very different installations...kinda important to know which one you have...you'll see why I ask about the antenna bracket if you read the 'installation instructions on the 'no ground".... the model number on the package tells you..here's the link to their "No Ground"......

Ok i'm gonna just punt on the horn thing....does your '97 have a 'back door ECU?? that would be located very close to the antenna, that's connected to your alarm system, that's connected to your horn etc etc...see where i'm going with this....just a thought....

Back at it again. New cb radio, new mount new wire. Had it professionally tuned. Recently she. Keys in, the horn goes off. Like seriously what could it be ?
