CB Radio Mount in Glovebox? Anyone tried it?

Ok. I am trying to keep my T4R in its original clothing and don't want to cut the ashtray area out for a CB radio.

I have a compact CB that I have had for years. There is room in the glove box for it and I would route the antenna cable out the back of the glove box. When I need the radio (not often) I would open it up and use it. Once I am not using it, it is out of sight.

Has anyone tried this by chance? If so, any write-ups available? (And yes, I have searched.....)

I installed mine in the extra space below my aftermarket stereo. Because the 4runner uses a 2 din slot I could buy an addapter which made mounting withouth having to drill holes in the dash panels or cut the ash tray out.

It came out really clean.

Man - I really like the look of that CB placement!!! Nice, clean, streamlined and looks "stock". I will not use a CB much so that is why I thought about the glove box. I can "close it and hide it" when I am not using it. I bought a double DIN radio so I do not have the extra space you do. That being said, you setup looks fantastic. Well done man!!!

I don't know if you have considered this option but I chose the ashtray spot as I grew tired of hitting a bump and the ashtray flying open because I kept change in it.
I did this when I installed my new Pioneer HU with antenna adapters and ran the wires for my Sirius radio.

If you don't wan to see it I believe Cobra make a remote mount with all the controls on the mic

Take a look at the Cobra 75 wxst. I installed mine and you wouldn't know it is there other than the antenna on the back. Completely invisible from the inside. Check out my build for some pics and info. Should be within the last two pages.

There should be plenty of room to route the cables out of the rear of the glovebox and in with the factory dash harness for a clean install, it's just a matter of whether or not your CB will fit in the glovebox, the shape doesn't allow for anything very large.
