CB Static / Squelch set very high

So like my title says. in order to hear anyone on my cb i have to have the squelch set to a tad over half way. but other than that its constant static across the channels. with limited range, .5 mile

i am running a cobra wx 18 st ii with a 4 ft firestick non adjustable tip.

its currently tuned to 1.1:1.2 on 1-40 i have a ground wire going on the bottom of the bracket to the frame where i have my off road lights grounded to.

the antenna in up front mounded on the brush guard.

how do i get rid of the static,

some things i have tried and searched the past few months is to test if the static is the same with the vehicle off. which is much better. i can turn the squelch down to about 1/4. but when i start the car it goes crazy and have to go up to half. i have it wired to the radio power supply (i think of cig lighter powers)

i have cleaned everything a few days ago go get rid of any dirt of build up of corrosion that might be limiting my ability but that didnt seem to help any. my antenna (its very long, used to have the antenna in the rear) wire starts next to the passenger seat, behind the seat on above the carpet but under the floor mads along the door sill and out the passenger door by the a pillar into the engine bay towards the front of the vehicle to the antenna.

If you need any more explanation or things i can try just ask me i can tell you and am pretty skilled in this area but cant figure this thing out.

the only things i haven't tried is new equipment like antenna, radio, wire and so on.

Do you have any other aftermarket electrical accessories? After market headunit? HID head lights? Etc? I ask only because sometimes these things will be electrically "noisy" and you'll end up hearing them through the CB.

One thing you can try is running your power wires directly to the battery, and see if that eliminates some of the noise.

Another option is to buy a power filter, which is basically just a low pass filter. This will clean up the power signal going to the CB which will also eliminate some of the whine.

I just bought one myself, and am going to wire it up in the next few days because I have similar symptoms. I notice more whine on the CB anytime I turn on the radio or any of my HID's. Cheap electronics...

i am running a ultra gauge, police scanner, aftermarket radio, i can have my lights on (turn them on and off and i dont hear anything. same with my radio and my power antenna.) everything can be running or not be running and it does not make a difference, only when i start my car and its running will the static come back.
could it be alternator wine and current flowing?

As a truck driver, I have learned where some problems come from with CBs. I know the most common are, bad mike, a loose connection at the back where the antenna plugs in, loose mike connection, or a bad antenna. See if the shrink wrap at the base of the antenna is loose or cracked. Usually the feed back is power getting to the signal side of the CB. Good luck

I had a similar problem with mine. I had it hooked to the cigarette lighter for power and grounded to a bolt near by. I got an annoying whine that got progressively worse the longer it was running until even at full squelch i would hear it.

I re-wired both pos and neg directly to the battery and this took care of most of the whine. another problem you could have is if your antenna is not adequately grounded, or if it is run near electric devices such as motors.
