CBI Bumper Help

This may have been asked already, but I can't find it via search.

I've got the CBI rear bumper w/ swing out spare tire carrier on my 2013 trail, it came with it on the vehicle when I purchased it. I know the swing out piece can be removed (CBI confirmed this over email), and I figured it would be an easy removal.

Remove the locking pin on the hinge side
unscrew allen-head bolts that hold on the top cap on the spindle+remove cap
Unscrew top spindle lock (allen wrench)
Unscrew bottom spindle lock (allen wrench)
??????

What am I doing wrong?

You don't have to remove the Lower spindle lock. The shaft stays in place. Once you remove the top cap you have to lift the swing out off the shaft. It can be difficult but I find WD-40 on the bushing and shaft help it slide out. Good luck

Like Gabe said, just remove the spindle cap and the swing out will slide off. The swing out is a very tight fit on the spindle. As mentioned already, use WD-40. It would help with another set of hands. Have someone pivot the swing arm back and forth as the other person lifts up on the swing arm right at the spindle.

Make sure whoever is lifting from the spindle to lift straight up. I usually cradle it on top both arms(like an L shape)while my son holds the farthest end while we both are walking back and forth. If it's lubed pretty well, it'll come right off with no hassles.

If alone I used to use a dead blow hammer to tap up on mine right at the spindle while I opened and closed the gate. Once it started moving it should come on off then. One item that is probably obvious is to remove the tire and stuff from it first to lower weight and leverage.

Hell yeah man! I actually bought it down in Anderson from the Toyota dealer there. They were much more willing to work with me than any dealer up here in the Charlotte area.

I knew I had seen that runner before! Previous owner was behind me one day but I was in the wifes rav lol. We lived in Anderson for 3 months. Have only dealt with the service guys at that dealer but they are great! Going to be in town for the VT game. If your around we can try and link up.
