I was also under the impression that it was just bolt on. I bought one and it is shipping now. I didn't see any install manual and could not find a google image of it either. I hope there is no cutting involved or it's going back.

It's just a bracket, you aren't cutting anything. Where did you see that you would have to cut it up?

I have one that I'm using for my CB antenna, the bracket pushes the hood up. Some have cut out the piece of cowl that interferes. You don't need to, I used a heat gun to heat the plastic and then slammed the hood. Two times and it fit perfect, even if I took it back off no one would ever notice the small melted spot.

I didn't get the best ground and had to run an additional grounding strap under the hood, others haven't.

I had the same problem as JHalko and basically did the same heat gun mod. I did tape a piece of wood the same width as the bracket and about 3/8" thick before heating the cowling to get a bit more clearance when the hood was closed.

I went passenger side to keep more out of my view. I figure if it was on the drivers side I would stare and it and rear end someone.

I plan on removing some of the paint from the bracket and using conductive grease for the antenna and at the bolts to the hood for hopefully an okay ground. I'm using this for a dual band Ham, hopefully the ground plane is a little more forgiving.

Thanks for the input! I can't make up my mind wether to buy the driver side or the passenger side mount. Can you think of any pros or cons to either side?

Given the cost, I wish I had just bought both and if I didn't use one sold it to another member! My only concern on the passenger side is whether there will be any interference when I put a snorkel on (don't think it will be an issue). Also on 10-13 models we had radio antennas so I replaced mine with one of those stubby antennas so they didn't bang into each other.

Can anyone post pictures of the interference?

Scroll down and you will see, install otherwise is nothing, even with using the heat gun it's just take two bolts out, put two in. Install antenna base before mounting bracket, trust me on that, you don't want to have to take it off just to put the antenna spring bolt in, like me...

Running the extra ground strap seemed like a better option than scraping paint as I assumed I'd just be dealing with rust later. My SWR was near perfect doing that, but I know nothing about ham other than the bacon variety. :drum:

under the hood, plenty of holes to put a bolt in but I just used an existing one.

I looked for awhile, this was the best option in my opinion, I'll try to grab a picture of what I did with the heat gun tonight, this really seemed like the least intrusive option when I looked at everything else knowing i preferred a "permanent" mount.

Check the group buy section for a bracket mstudt is making, that may be something you like, it's for the back though.

Here are a couple shots of the mount and what it looks like with the heat gun method. Super quick and only took 2 or 3 times of heating then slamming the hood.

I'm not really a fan of how the antenna looks there and I may end up putting it on the hatch or Gobi with a swing down mount later on. Gonna see if it grows on me but I doubt it.

Did you try a shorter antenna for daily driving? I ordered a 2ft white for daily stuff and a 5ft black for off road use and adventuring. I should have mine installed in a few weeks. I will post up pictures also. Thanks for showing the picture of where you melted the plastic.
