CBI ditch light brackets

Check these out. They're not perfect matches, visually, but they drop right into factory blank spaces and at less than half price, they could be good enough. I just bought a couple for my compressor and locker but haven't wired them up yet.

Brackets are much bigger and beefier than I thought.

Now I have a switch dilemma, as I like the idea of using an FJ or Taco OEM fog light switch, but I don't want to pay that much for a damn switch...

theyre not that bad, cheaper than ebay too!

Install

I just installed these by myself. A few things I did that made it a bit easier (some have already been mentioned in this thread).

-Unbolt the (3) bolts that hold the fender - 2 in engine bay & 1 in door jam. You can get away with (2) but I found I could pull the fender out more with 3.

-I wedged a piece of wood between the front fender and body. You may want to put some tape around the area to avoid scratches. Much easier to access the (2) hood bolts with the fender pulled out.

-Support the hood. Once you remove the 2 bolts holding the bracket the hood is free to move on that side.

I went to the stealership today to see what their price for the OEM switch was.... $79! About $30 more than eBay prices... Sorry local business, you're not getting my cash this time..

I ordered one of the ditch light brackets and it came today, decided I'd install it after work.

But unlike most of you all, I will be using it as my CB Antenna Mount, I don't really want anymore lights at the moment, but who knows, I may change my mind down the line and add lights to it (and reroute my CB antenna wire for a 3rd time).

install was pretty straightforward, although I probably made it more difficult for myself than it should've been and it took me about an hour (note to self: get high AFTER working on your car, not before...)

I also cut half of the windshield trim so I could attach it back on, it looked kinda weird leaving it completely off

The stud for the cb antenna was actually not long enough because of how much thicker the cbi mount is compared to my old one so I'll have to go out to a hardware store tomorrow to get an extended stud.

i only installed on driver side and now the driver side does look a bit more raised compared to passenger side, but that was expected since it is basically a spacer on the hood mount on that side. installing on both sides would balance it out but it's no big deal, the hood still opens/closes correctly

Instructions show NOT to put them between hood hinge and body, but just on top of hinge. Mine went on fine that way.

Sure.

1) Open door
2) remove rubber gasket on door exposing 10mm bolt, remove bolt
3) remove 3x10mm bolts on fender
4) pull fender out and wedge something in place so you can access 12mm hood hinge bolts
5) Have your buddy hold hood
6) remove 2x12mm bolts on hood hinge
7) slip bracket over hinge and replace 2x12mm bolts
8) put everything back together
