I was lucky enough to get the 2nd set of aluminum bumpers behind Chris of course.. I can also say I have not been kind to them either. I have had A Nissan Altima slide under my rear bumper and had to put it in 4 to pull it off as my rear tires had zero traction. I have also recovered my beater Taco more times than I care to remember with the winch on the front... Any way if I had to do it over again I would not hesitate as I have been more than impressed. Currently having another rig that's has all steel bumpers I can say aluminum is worth the price. Hope this helps.....

The Hefty fab and CBI front bumpers both look great they both follow the lines of the 2014+ front perfectly. I think you won't go wrong with either one, I ended up with a hefty fab front on my previous 4runner and loved it, but my two contenders with HF and CBI I would have been happy with either one.

I talked to someone from CBI on the phone and he said the steel was really not that much heavier than the aluminum front bumper, at least for the 5th gen.
This was off the top of his head but he quoted 110lb vs 70-something lbs. I had previously thought it would be like 60ish vs 120ish. This is for the single hoop up front. I guess actual numbers would be nice but this was good enough info for me.
To me, then it was a no brainer to go for steel. Currently, the lead time is also twice as long for aluminum.

God forbid you ask this question in a 4runner facebook group. People come out defending Hefty as if CBI just murdered their friend.
You cannot go wrong with either. It is pretty apparent that the 4runner people don’t realize what Hefty was before Chris himself got a 4runner and started making parts for it. Their work was not perfect. They made mistakes and, frankly put, shipped out lousy products. Since their redesign (of front bumper), the quality of fitment has dramatically increased. I still, however, do not recommend their powder coat.
Though I cannot speak for CBI products, they seem like good products. They have also had quality control issues in the past, but I’m not sure if they do now.
I will say that I trust the welds of the Hefty fabricators as much as I do Shrockworks. They can take a beating.

Nice! Those cuts use clean. What kind of saw did you use? Any tips on how to make it look clean like that?

Funny your comment came up and I had to go back and read my comments from before the demise, since I never liked their stuff at all. It always smelled funny and sure enough it was a big pile of poop under the covers.
Glad the OP was able to steer clear and end up with a good product for his money.
