Cd-rom Shop Manuals

I was on ebay and it seems that were dozens of sellers with cd-rom shop manuals are they legit and the same as what you can order from Toyota at a fraction of the price,... I think they were no more than $25 and from my local dealer they were maybe $50 let me know if you have had any experience with these horse traders.

I'd also be curious if all the same info is on the cd that is in the >$200 paper edition. If that's the case I'll definitly buy the cd.

I am not surprise that a CD would be much cheaper than a book. A lot less effort and material is put into making a CD.

The service manuals that I use for all the HP LJ printers I have to fix, used to cost $50 or more for a manual, but now I can get any manual for any printer for free, and I have them all on CD.

My 04 CD based shop manual from ebay arrived earlier this week. From what I can tell, everything is on it. Beware however, that it's a collection of MANY pdf (adobe portable document format) files and can be somewhat difficult to navigate around until you get used to it.

At the moment, I have no way to confirm if it's an exact match for the paper manual. The disc I received appears to be a home-made copy with a scan of the original CD (as a stick on label) stuck to it. The disc is marked 'for internal use only, not for distribution' or some such (sorry, it's not in my hands as I type this).

If someone has the 04 paper manuals, PM me and perhaps we can compare some sections to check it out. Also, if you just want to borrow : a few pages, PM me.

Can you tell me who you ordered it from and tell me if it has a tabl of contents or an index since you said ir was a little hard to navigate my brother warned me about that they were usually scanned pdfs of the paper version could you elaborate on navigability of the manual t5hat is the one thing that I'm hesitant about. How much did you pay ?

The quality of the content is flawless, I'd say the disk was NOT produced by scanning the paper copy. Rather it is a copy of some 'internal use only' electronic version of the manuals.

The only index included is the same index(es) that would appear in the paper version. Basically, each major section of the manual(s) is broken down into it's own directory. The directories are named after the manual section number or a cryptic abbreviation corresponding to the section title. This is the easy part to figure out how to navigate.

Within a section, things are a bit harder to deal with. In the repair manual, for instance, each section contains numerous subdirectories with meaningless alphanumeric names. Within each directory is one or more pdf files (also with meaningless names -- see attached file listing of CD). The wiring manual is a little better since the subdirectory and individual pdf file names are at least cyrptic abbreviations of the section subtitles.

I purchased from shardauto on ebay for $19.99 + $5.95 s/h. Actual shipping was a $.60 stamp and cardboard CD mailer. The seller claims the cost is to cover insurance (apparently self insured .... lmao).

In any case, I am happy with the disk. I made a copy to my hard drive and am slowly working to reorganize/rename things so that it will be easier to recall them in the future.

Man you weren't kidding ,those are alot of files and hard to decode some of them probably without looking through them, well I suppose it covers both manuals then the repair or maitenance part and the schematics one. That seems like a steal if you got both for $25 from the dealer i think i was looking at close to $200 for the paper version thanks for all the great input youve helped me seal the deal if only I can be so lucky to find the '98 version

The dealer list price for the 2004 service manuals is like $180 per volume, so you're looking at almost $400 with tax. Some dealers or internet OEM sellers will sell them for about $140 each. You can get both service volumes in paper manuals from "jcmanuals1" on ebay for a $140 minimum bid (+$18 shipping). I took that route and am very happy with the product and service. I haven't seen the electrical manual in paper on ebay yet, I think it's $80 list at the dealer.

You can always burn a copy of your C.D. for back-up purposes and lend it out for people to review. (heheheheeee)

OTOH, current pricing for a '04 4Runner V8 is $139.33 for volume I and same price for volume II.

It looks like the CD is volumes one and two, plus the electrical volume. True? Any word on the V6 supplement?

There is no v6 supplement. The 04 manuals already include everything for the V8 AND V6.

I e-mailed him, and he has all manuals on CD for the 2003 models. Will order them when I get back into the US.

wish I got the cd

I bought the full shop manual on ebay. wish I would have got the cd. I have the cd for my lexus and RX-7 so much easier to find what I am looking for. Also, just print out the page or couple of pages for you project. All these manual take up room.

If you get the CD like I got for my '04 good luck. My two manuals rule over the CD. The CD is just a bunch of numerical folders each having more numerical folders which then contain more numerical .pdf icons.
