cell phone mounting ideas?

+1 for the ProClip. Its pricey but honestly its the best cellphone mount i've ever used. I have them in every car I own.

I did this. But I didn’t drill, I’m using double sided tape. When it fails, I’ll do it just like the video. Really enjoying it.

Below are some pics of my install. I did the drill method and the mount is rock solid on the trail. My phone never moves with this mount, even on washboard roads out to the trails. One of the easiest and top installed for quality of driving that I've done.

I also installed a fuse tap to a dual USB charger from ARB: https://www.aironboard.com/online/power-outlet-12v-dual-usb-charger-carling-arb-switches-size.html
which runs to my glove box and then a USB charging wire to right under the RAM phone mount so I can mount and charge without all the cables crossing the dash etc.

Shortly after permanently mounting my ram mount I figured out that the one bolt mount might not be the best way to do it. It was difficult to get it tight enough and even if I did it is just plastic. So today I super glued a large fender washer to the back side of the radio bezel and used a lock washer. Tightened it down pretty well. Hopefully this will do the trick. If not I might have to mount the 2 point one with rivets.

I have the proclip mount;

+2 On the Proclip...even though the power plug hole isn't compatible with my phone case (iPhone battery case) I still use it because it is solid and stable.

I never thought this would be good, but it really is. I have used magnetic mounts, clips, etc.

I just started using a Popsocket. This really is a great way to mount your phone. Plus, it makes holding your phone easier too.

Bracketron mount

My simple solution. Bracketron magnetic cell phone mount. It grabs onto the upper vent fins. Has a magnet and pull-out legs to position and support the phone. Phone has a thin metal plate under the phone cover. About $30.

Bolts/washers/nyloc nuts attached from the inside.

I took out the entire Nav/head unit and drilled directly through the plastic.
There are a number of step by step videos on the utubes on how to do this, as well as some awesome pictures and write ups on this forum how to do this.
Just be careful when drilling into the plastic head unit piece, as it's 1 solid uniform piece and if cracked would be a PITA to replace. I started with small pilot holes and worked up / increase in size on drill bits until I had the hole the perfect size.
On the back side of this area where you're mounting it is the levers for the air con/heating venting are located and there are some support plastic pieces for the head unit, so the placement is the holes has to be very precise. You can't go too deep on the drilling or you'll risk hitting these.

Used hex/allen key screws in black as they had some at Home Depot, they functioned and had a good color match.

Sorry can't remember the exact size or length. I just took the diamond mounting plate into Home Depot and pieced it all together in the screw isle one Saturday.

I used small black rubber washers on the outside to keep the screws from scratching up everything and then used nyloc nuts and washers on the back side to secure it in place.

I have this holder that has prongs that hold it in the air vent. The phone holds to it with a magnet. Nothing fancy, but works pretty well. I don't have a problem with it blocking a little air, I don't really notice.

after years of avoidance of holders, I finally bought a ball magnet that attaches to the center console trim with a disc of adhesive tape...a thin metal wafer on the back of my phone and it mounts securely and neatly just under the AC registers...works well

I did basically the same thing, except I put a neodymium magent on the inside of that same aftermarket trim piece. After various mounting options have failed due to the heat it's now Gorilla glued - we'll see if it holds. It's quite a strong magnet, and holds really well (and has a cool "magic" factor when my phone just holds itself to the car). I'll try to get some pictures at some point.

Anybody mount theirs to the A-pillar?

I like having mine on the A-pillar but since the 4runner has curtain airbags I've hesitated to throw one up there.

I was hesitant to do anything on the A pillar due to the airbag. God knows I want to though. It would be nice to use that space for a cluster panel or just throw a proclip on it for the phone.

I live in Texas and the Koomus windshield dash mount does not come off the windshield. I have had it on for two years and no problems. Official name is "Koomus Dashboard Windshield Universal Smartphone Car Mount" Great product

phone mounrt idea

hi Guys, after trying different methods of mounting my phone i decided to try using GO Pro mounts and brackets to make my own mount

I liked the idea of the magnetic phone mount but versatility was limited so i used various gopro style arms and mounts

I went with ProClip solution on the A frame. This topic has been beaten to death regarding the airbag but I love this solution.
