Ceramic Coating?

There are mixed reviews on ceramic coatings, personally I love them and have them on a number of my vehicles. As manufacturers have tried to reduce cost some items suffer paint has been 1 of them, in my opinion this adds some additional protection and easier maintenance. I too have applied to rims and also 1 set of calipers and on top of clear bra.

I personally think the ceramic coating isn't worth the money and stress. Check out the swirl damage that happened after the dealer washed it, even though I told them not to. The story is on the youtube description if you care to read it, it's a very long story. Short story, improper washing can scratch the coating very easy.

Now, it could also be a factor of ceramic coating NOT properly installed by the detailed shop. Where they could've rushed the application between the coatings (where bonding didn't happened properly, it's all a guess).

A lot of headaches for sure, I say just invest more for clear film or just keep the factory paint since it can polish much easier.

My thoughts on ceramic coating:

1. Yes, a coating is worth it. It has made maintaining my vehicles far less time consuming and they always look good. However, you must keep up on the washing and keep the vehicle clean in order to get the maximum effects they provide and longest durability.

2. While I'm sure the pro-grade stuff is far more durable, you might want to learn the whole detailing process and do it yourself!

+1 on learning the process yourself. It will definitely take you a couple days to get it completed if you're going to start from decontamination, paint correct, polish, then coat. However, it is such a satisfying process.

I've done a couple ceramic coats using GTechnique & then the beadmaker in between washes... it's an awesome combo.

A ceramic coating is a great option for protecting your car's paint. I do detailing on the side for some extra money here and there, and I love to do it. I would recommend using Adams Polishes wheel coating on the paint if you are going to coat it. The wheel coating is a little bit thicker and it is intended for the wheels because of all the heat that it gets from the brakes. It lasts longer than the regular paint coating. Either way the paint or wheel coating is a great choice. I paint corrected my car and made the paint as perfect as I could get it. I then put the wheel coating on it and it is very impressive. The pollen in Colorado has been coming in strong recently. and I just washed it for the second time with the coating installed and man, it is like crazy impressive. it has been rainy and went here too so I drive through water and there is all this black dirt on the back end of the car. I used my pressure washer to clean the car off and it would have been clean without washing the car with a mit and soap. (I still foamed it up and did the full detail) It makes cleaning a BREEZE. Recently got into a black 2020 ORP (first black vehicle). I went with a ceramic coating + xpel and have been very pleased with how water beads of the car. After the paint correction, it looked better than new. Virtually no rain spots now after storms. Xpel is only on the front half of the vehicle per the detailer's recommendation.
