Just stopped by auto tinting shop and they have this stuff by 3M Called Ceramic window tint. Its essentially clear, but it blocks 80% of the heat. Its really high tech stuff. I was thinking of getting the front driver's and passenger's side done. This TX drought and heat are taking its toll.

Wanted your thoughts?
Wanted to know if $150 for the 2 front windows is reasonable? (lifetime warranty on cracking bubble or peeling)

ceramic tint is better than the metallic tint, i myself use ceramic tint, even tho it cost more, i dont need to worry about radio reception and interference, metallic tint does block some signal, if u have a 2 way alarm , it does affect the range. anyway i use Llumar Axcess, maybe its the same stuff

Typically it's 60.00 here locally to tint two front windows. The ceramic sure seems a lot higher.

I have 50% Ceramic from B-pillar back. Fronts are 35% Regular tint. It makes a huge diff in interior temp, especially if can car is black/black like mine. If you live in a hot climate, have a dark color car and will keep the car for a while, it's worth the investment.

sunroof shattering from heat?

Just got the full truck done in Ceramic from 3M CM30

Let me know if anyone has questions or is thinking about it?

I should have skipped the sunroof, but I was told AFTER it was installed that the sunroof glass may shatter from getting too hot!?

Anyone ever heard of this?

I am going to go with ceramic tint to help with the Phoenix heat. I wanted to do the Sunroof as well. Anybody have issues with Ceramic tint on the Sunroof?

Just had ceramic done on my front two windows here in Cali. Paid $125. Thinking about going back and having the rest done. The ceramic stuff is awesome.

The 3M rep told me that I should NOT have put ceramic on the sun roof. He says it gets really hot and can shatter? He has only seen in twice on aftermarket sunroofs. He said that if you want to do the sunroof go with crystalline. It has better light scattering properties that don't cause it to heat up as much.

So far I love the ceramics all the way around (no issues with sunroof. Doesn't feel any hotter than prior to the application even after sitting in full sun.

ALSO!, ceramics is a MIS NOMER.

it actually has titanium in it, and thus is metallic and "can" block radio signals. so far no issues with AM FM

If you are going to all this work you might as well do the windshield. 80% nobody will even be able to tell its tinted but you will have the heat blocking benefits. The dash really heats up and then radiates that heat to the rest of the car. And do the rears (even with just regular tint that is cheaper) since the factory tint is just colored glass and has very little heat blocking ability. Thats what I would do anyway.

Just got a quote of $590 to do the whole runner in Crystalline including Sunroof. Rep.said Crystalline is even better than ceramic in heat resistance.

I had mine done in the Lumar ceramic. I think it was $250 or $280. All windows except the windshield and sunroof done in 20%. From the B-pillar back it had the factory smoke so the rear windows still look darker than the two front one's.

I was told the same about the sunroof. They straight out refused to do it.

I was going to get the windshield done in a UV only (no tinting) ceramic, but they wanted an extra $100 just to do that. They said it s alot of work with the heat gun to get the film to lay perfect so you can't tell it's there.

Question... When you get the front window tinted how do place your registration sticker and toll road tags? Especially the registration sticker that has to be changed every year here in Texas.

That’s an excellent question I never considered! I’d imagine that scraping the old sticker off with a razor would be very problematic if you have a tinted windshield. Also, you bring up another good question regarding the toll transponders. With a metallic tint, or maybe ceramic, it could mess with the reading?

sounds like a question for the tint shop.

Has anyone found where to actually buy the tint? I've been looking to buy Spectra Photosync Ceramic and just do it myself but no luck. (They are charging around $1,000 to have a Tesla done... god save me and my 4runner.
