Changed out my vacuum hoses with silicon- pic

Can anyone confirm if the silicone is California legal? Or if it's just the colors that California has a problem with?

Everything in California is illegal. Especially with dick head idiot smog check guys that don't know shit about what they are doing even when you have smog legal parts.

But technically yes they would be illegal. But if you got black, they wouldn't be able to tell, the colors are just a dead giveaway.

Ok cool, black works for me. And yeah, California has some screwy-ass laws on the books. Someone could walk around San Francisco butt naked and be fine, yet put blue vac hoses on your truck and be in violation of the law.

Can only imagine what would happen to me if I accidentally hit a spotted owl with my truck...

Yep I purchased these hoses and could not be happier better than OEM with no issues. It's on you if you want to admit you upgraded your lines and get an outlandish color that screams not factory spec on an eighteen year old truck gimme a break!.:infidel:

That's the problem. It should not be the governments job to outlaw vac tubing because it doesn't (or didn't) currently work well enough to pass smog. If it fails—it fails, let the buyer beware. Test failure itself is the benchmark to measure all hoses be they silicone or not. Let the market sort itself out and bring its best products forward to measure itself against the test—that's how improvements are made and better products are created.

Just outright banning shit is the way of the lazy-man or a government who lacks vision...or at the very least—a basic faith in the ability of its citizens to improve their position.

[MENTION=122900]AZBub[/MENTION] gave me his mis-shipment of blue silicone tubing, I just had my emmisions done so Itll be another couple years before they need to be checked, but i wont have a problem if im still in arizona. I just did quite a few lines, a few of mine crumbled when I replaced them, others were easy, and some were just a huge pain. the other end of the tube thats attached to the pcv valve is hidden under a piece of foam, just pull it up. it looks like theres quite a lot of lines near that firewall that can be changed, but a lot of them are a huge pain to get to. I also discovered the fuel line, and wasnt able to to get one end off and gave up. certainly cleans the engine bay up a bit, ill have to get some degreaser or something and get the engine looking nice and clean at some point here.


they also have radiator hose, I might be getting some of that pretty soon here. I noticed that the majority of what I used was the 8mm, and the 6mm fit in all the spots where the 8mm works. I didnt use any of the 10mm yet and none of the 4mm either. I might make the 4mm into a breather extension for my rear axle.

update, looks like our trucks use a 1.25" radiator hose, and the biggest they make is 1"....

You don't want to use silicone line for the fuel line. I think that is why Cali won't approve them. Silicone will swell in contact with liquid gasoline.

PS. Foaming engine cleaner is cheap at Wal-Tard.

Just curious if anyone thinks there is an appropriate size from silicone intakes for the hoses that connect to the bottom of the radiator (the lower rad hose, and the ATF hoses), and if one can even use these silicone hoses for that application?

Oh, and has anyone bought the red ones? They look kind of pink. Anyway, I know blue is a little ridiculous but our Denso wires are blue, so at least it's not totally without precedence! Blue is sold out right now, so has anyone joined the waitlist and have any insight into how long it took to restock?

And to confirm, at least one or two people got away with just doing the engine dress up kit? I have a blue VW Golf R, so having leftover wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

You don't want silicone hoses for radiator hoses and tranny cooler lines. Just skip that idea all together.

Yeah, I realize that now, but I saw on their site they do have reinforced silicone heater hoses. Wouldn't that be what I want, or should I just go OEM with anything touching coolant, oil, or transmission fluid (aside from the overflow reservoir that everyone seems to get here) ?

Also, I just saw that the blue kit is sold out because they're out of the 8mm hose until September(!!). Would anyone be willing to tell/show me on a picture which ones are the 8mm hoses so I can figure out if it's worth it to just go with black and not wait until September? Oh, and FWIW, that kit is a great deal considering that the lengths of 10, 6, and 4 on their own are already $29 in my cart.

It seems like 8MM is the main size needed, correct? I'm considering to just order it by the foot in that case. I have two 4Runners needing vacuum hoses and I don't want to be stuck with some useless rolls of 10MM and 4MM hoses once I'm done.

If someone can chime in on the sizes and lengths needed, that would be great.

What is the tiny metal tube for in the top og the engine located in the back. It looks like something should connect to it and ive always wondered if im missing any connections. My vacuum hoses are basically disintegrating.
