Changed out my vacuum hoses with silicon- pic

Maybe it had a connection or function on 3rd gens that were strictly mechanical cable-throttle, cable-cruise?

Either that or it's the antenna for OTA firmware updates from Toyota.

Rofl. Yeah, I'll have a look at mine later and see where that goes. I've always been good about marking things before I disconnect them, so hopefully I didn't have a lapse in that.

It seems like 8MM is the main size needed, correct? I'm considering to just order it by the foot in that case. I have two 4Runners needing vacuum hoses and I don't want to be stuck with some useless rolls of 10MM and 4MM hoses once I'm done.

If someone can chime in on the sizes and lengths needed, that would be great.

As far as I can tell, the 4mm is pretty much just for the washer fluid hose, which I didn't do because that's what I'd call a low priority. When I priced it out individually, it was actually cheaper to get the kit by about $10-15. On the other hand, I was visually estimating which size I was replacing, and I ran out of 8mm (I think).

I also wasn't positive which hoses were safe to replace after the obvious that go to and from air intake related parts. I ended up being more conservative about it, but I'm going to try to replicate using the pictures of the blue hosing here.

Is there a picture or diagram of which hoses are safe to replace with this stuff? I think there might be a vacuum hose diagram on the hood, but I don't remember.

Oh, and Silicone Intakes is a phenomenal company! I ordered my kit on Thursday afternoon last week and it was to me by Friday (granted we're not that far away from Co Spgs, but still).

Any updates from anyone that have used their kits? How's it holding up 3-4 years in? I have a bunch of tubes that need replacing and I'm considering just using these in black.

I am going to buy this kit so I can replace all the hoses when I tear down the engine for the timing belt, cleaning the MAF sensor, etc.

In Ricer Red, of course, because why not?

I just answered this question like six months ago and I don't feel like researching it again. Are you an '01-'02 by any chance? I think maybe the answer was it wasn't used in the throttle-by-wire years but Toyota left it on there.

Anyway, there are definitely some trucks it is just there naked like that.

they also have radiator hose, I might be getting some of that pretty soon here. I noticed that the majority of what I used was the 8mm, and the 6mm fit in all the spots where the 8mm works. I didnt use any of the 10mm yet and none of the 4mm either. I might make the 4mm into a breather extension for my rear axle.

I have no idea how to determine that. They're just vacuum hoses really. I'm guessing silicone might last a little longer than the rubber, but we're talking like 200k miles on my old OEM ones before I replaced them with the silicone ones.:noidea:

Guys, it's been 4 years since I installed the hoses and I will say this without reservation, they still look great and feel like new. VERY satisfied.

I just ordered some of this stuff to try and spruce up (and hopefully fix a potential vacuum problem) the old factory hoses. I didn't get the kit as I don't plan to replace a bunch of 4mm, I went heavier on the 8 and 6, but got some of all sizes.

I want to bump this thread and just say to anyone with original vacuum lines, replace them! It might not be that obvious that youe lines are starting to fail or failing and replacing them can improve various things (fuel economy, idle, and throttle response)

That coupon code still works in 2019. Thanks for the thread, I just ordered the shop kit after replacing my valve cover gaskets (again) and fuel injectors and noticing tons of cracked vacuum lines. Hopefully this will solve my P0171.

Glad someone else brought this up from the dead. I'll be ordering some for my 89, 96, and my sister's 84.

However, I did want to address something I saw in the thread. What is everyone's aversion to silicone heater and radiator hoses? I've been running these for years with zero issues, and know others doing the same. Matter of fact, most newer OTR trucks use silicone hoses, or at least, silicone based. Is this another old wives' tale?
