Changed out my vacuum hoses with silicon- pic

I started this thread over 6 years ago and want to say that the silicon hoses have held up great. Still have the 4runner I put them on. Since then, I put them on two more 3rd Gens.

Good stuff. I never did use them on my radiator hoses but would not hesitate to do so.

Well, I joined the herd and bought the "shop" kit too... nice stuff, but where the heck are y'all using this stuff? I replaced everything on top of the engine/intake and have 17 of the 18 feet of the 3mm hose still sitting here. 7 of the 8 feet of the 10mm too... 7 of 12 feet the 6mm and only 1 of 6 foot of the 8mm.

That's a LOT of unused 3mm hose though. I know there are a handful of lines on the drivers side, below the fuse box that I haven't attacked (I disconnected and everything was holding vacuum, so I just reconnected OEM for now).

Want to sell me whatever you don't use then? Looks like you got one of the last Black kits out there, and I'm not about to put blue or red hoses under the hood of my Green truck! I'm building a pile of parts to overhaul the top half of the engine, and Vac hoses are on my list for the 400k service.

I'd buy that if I didn't use 5 feet out of the 6 feet sent of the 8mm. I don't even have enough of that to even think about doing a second truck, much less 3 or 4.

Funny you should post. I was just looking at this thread yesterday! I'm also going for the black hoses and was trying to decide what the sweet spot on all of the hose sizes and lengths are. From looking through the thread, I was thinking that the dress-up kit with a few extra feet of 8mm would be the best option.

What were you planning on buying?

would prefer black as well. I have a few hoses looking tired, so maybe this would be a good fix and do them all, but then the NGK wires are blue..so guess it would blend in.

Honestly, I would not run Silicon on an engine this old. They do not like OIL Vapors, so they will degrade from the inside out due to the oil vapors traveling through our vacuum system. There are 2 or 3 prebent hoses you can buy for under 20 bucks OEM, and then replace the rest with generic rubber vacuum hose from the parts house.

I never used silicone hoses on any Toyotas. I know the black lines will split and deteriorate in a few locations.

I just replace the ones that have issues with OEM lines if I can get them and if not standard gas approved black vaccuum lines like the other 2 members do. Solves my issue and good for another 20 years or so.

You can't use silicon on a turbo charged Mitsubishi anywhere, so I assume it is unwise to use it on any vehicle.

Holy throwback. It has been a while since I started this thread. My original post from my 97, the lines are still like new. Also have them on a 2001 and a 2002.

No problems! They don't Crack and dry out.
