Changing suspension

Hi, Newbie here from Canada. Love my 2011 Runner, but now noticing it is somewhat bouncier and swingy (not sure if proper term) on turns. I have been told it is the suspension: approx 50k miles or 80k Kms. Would like to change the suspension myself. I note the front is a strut assembly, and the rear shocks. I will be doing this with my cousin in New Hampshire during my visit in Oct - he is a mechanical engineer and does all his own work.

My question is this: should I just change the entire strut assembly (front) or just the shock. If I choose the latter I will probably need to compress the coils I assume? Is it worth it? Also, any suggestions on what brand shocks and struts?

I should clarify the use: It is primarily my wife's vehicle - mostly town driving, but I take into the woods a few times a year for hunting and fishing. Sometimes go offroading, but nothing too serious. Love the way it plows through our typical Canadians winter too! :) Thanks in advance!
