Cheap Insurance From USAA!

If you've ever been in the military you can save a ton of money on insurance with a company called USAA. It's membership only for military personnel, kind of like a credit union. If you can qualify it's extremely cheap but you have to join just to get a quote. The ads on TV talk about good service but never mention how cheap it is and they show young people in uniform so it sounds like you have to be on active duty but anyone who's ever been in the military can probably qualify. I'm a Vietnam war veteran so I gave it a try. The insurance for my truck was due the end of Dec. and I've had AIG since 2006 but when they had all that trouble for selling bad mortgage investments in 2008 the insurance div. was spun off and became a company called 21st Century. It was really cheap at first, only half as much as the other high priced companies like Geico. But they were acquired by Farmers who started raising the rates. When I bought the 4Runner and added that to the policy they wanted more than double what it was before but it should be less than double cause I can only drive one at a time and should have got a multiple car discount. Then, when it came due this time they wanted to raise it $60 more and gave me the reason being that I was another year older! Who can afford insurance that goes up $60 a year? I had a big fight with their rep on the phone and told her I wasn't paying more every time their CEO wanted to buy a new boat or another mansion. I had already sent them a check to renew it until I could find a better deal but they returned my check and cancelled the policy. I remembered the one that AARP promotes was cheap last time I checked too so I tried that. They use the Hartford and it is still a little cheaper than the other high priced companies like Geico but not by much. Since Farmers keeps raising the rates and the Hartford is too high I checked with USAA and they are only about 1/3 as much as what all the others are charging for the same coverage! Where Farmers and the other high priced companies all wanted about $625- $1260/yr just for liability on the truck it's only $275 at USAA! Instead of $57/mo just for liability it's only $17 from USAA! I can get full coverage from USAA for what the others want just for liability! While USAA talks about good service I don't care so much about that and just want reasonable prices that I can afford from a company that isn't trying to rip me off!
I've told some of my friends about this and they say it seems too good to be true but I have coverage on my vehicles for a lot less money and insurance ID cards to prove it so I think it works. They have a good website where you can add vehicles and family members or other drivers, change the amount of coverage and add or remove options and it tells what each thing will cost and the total. Then you can pay them with a credit card and get the ID cards to print out right away. It's pretty slick.
They also have motorcycle insurance so I'm going to try that too next time I need to renew it.
BTW, Amica sent me an estimate of $2200! They must be insane!

I moved from Geico to USAA 2 years ago. I added a renters policy, upped my car coverage, and added a ridder for guns/camera equipment for less then I was paying at Geico. No complaints so far.

If your parents were military, you are qualified as well.

If you are under 25, it's not worth it. They quoted me 489 a month for full coverage on my 06 4runner and 09 corolla, amd I pay 200 right now with progressive and have a $100 deductible. With usaa it would have been a 500 deductible. Once you are over 25 though it is worth it

I have been trying to get away from Farmers for 7 years now. No one has been able to give me a better rate, including USAA.

We have home and auto with them and I have no claims on either. We have been with them for 20 years now.

I like everything I hear about USAA but I can't justify paying more money.

Have you looked at Progressive? I am paying about 1200/year for my 2 vehicles, hopefully it doesn't go up after this accident I had a few weeks ago.

How can you not get a much better rate from USAA than a high priced company like Farmers? You must be in a high risk group costing a lot to insure?

I've had Progressive in the past but they are also one of the high priced companies like Geico. The Hartford was the cheapest I've found except for USAA but Dairyland might be even lower then the Hartford. I have Dairyland on my bike and it's a lot less than the others like Progressive but I wasn't able to get an auto insurance quote from them.

I was a long-time USAA member that STILL comparison shopped my auto/home rates. Upon purchasing a new home about a decade ago, I shopped around with the 10 largest insurers. Nationwide beat my USAA auto/home rate by over $300 annually. I called USAA and asked them to "meet" that quote. They refused.

I switched to Nationwide that day.

A year ago, purchased a new property and of course this caused me to shop around again. Got the quote from Nationwide and many others. This time, USAA agreed to give me the lowest rate for combined auto/home. I guess they lost some business and had to get competitive. Been with them and have had great service.

I can't say why Farmers has the lowest rates for me. No tickets, no claims 2 cars and a house.

We have been with them for a very long time. My original agent in Arizona is a personal friend but I doubt that had anything to do with it.

I shop insurance every year direct and through brokers.

I have heard bad things about Progressive. I hope they take care of your accident for you.

We are under $1200 for both vehicles with good coverage.

My wife had usaa before we ever go married and she was never in the military so you may want to give them a call. I have had USAA from day on after boot camp now we have 4 car and under 1200 a year for all on them

It was a minor incident, unfortunately it was my fault. On the good side, I personally know the adjuster that looked at my car, so he took care of me.

She couldn't have got coverage on her own, she would have needed to have been sponsored by a family member like her mom or dad or possibly an ex husband that she never told you about!
