my check engine light is on i know there is a way to due a self diagnostic check that makes the check engine like flash i just cant remember how to due it. if anyone can tell me that would be great thank you

This is how i do it.
I take a metal paper clip and i short out the TE1 and E1 in the diagnostic port and then turn the key on. The check engine light will flash the code then.
