Check Engine Light - PO466 - What next?

1997 4Runner Limited 4x4 3.4L Auto 175k miles.

Check engine light comes on with PO466 code.

Here's what I've done so far:

• Replace gas cap with new OEM cap.
• Check all evap canister valves with 9v battery and all "click" when hooked up.
• Disconnected battery and reattached.

CEL light will go off for about 200 miles each time I disconnect the battery and then the CEL comes back on.

Vehicle runs fine, but it will not pass emissions with CEL going on and off.

Something I've notice (may not have anything to do with this problem), but whenever I remove the gas cap to fill up the gas, there is no built up pressure in the tank. On my wife's Camry, there is always pressure released whenever you take off the gas cap>

Same problem here.

I just ordered an OEM gas cap on line.

Will install and clear code.

Should be fine after that

I can't comment on the exact problem but I have been using an iPhone app-OBD Fusion $4, and there are even more Droid versions, with a $25 Elm327 WIFI Wirless OBD2 Car Diagnostic Reader Scanner Scan Tool (Amazon). The advantage is it can see pending codes so you're not guessing as much.

I had a P7101 and kept trying all kinds of stuff to fix and the light would pop 50 miles later. With the above set-up I could tell if the problem had been solved or not right away. If the fix did not work, I got a pending code. I knew I had it licked when a fix gave no pending and sure enough problem solved.

Nothing more frutrating driving around and waiting for the cel to pop.

PS. No need to disconnect battery, Remove EFI fuse, turn key for 30-60 secs; done. This way you don't have to reset radio stations . The above setup clears codes as well. It also has extensive tool list; mpg, O2, temperature….

I've got the 440, 442 & sometimes 446. I have a smal leak.
I replaced the charcoal canister for almost $500 and the VSV for $70 and a toyota gas cap for $30. Was still getting the code.

I took it to a dealership for something else and had them run a diagnostic.
Cost me $68 to find out it was the check valve on the gas tank. They want $500 mostly labor to replace it.

Point being, pay for a diag and don't try to chase the problem with expensive parts!

What dealership do you use?

I've had a couple of really bad (and expensive $$$) experiences with all the stealerships here in the East Mesa area!
