Check Engine Light

So I took my 05 4runner sr5 to dealer because I got check engine light. They pulled the p0430 code. Said they must start with replacing catalyst converter and may have to replace oxygen sensors and other manifolds. To replace catalyst converter will cost $850 and it is their "experience" that once one goes the other is soon to follow. Now looking at possible $1700. Oh, and my water pump is seeping which is another $600 for a grand total of...$2300. Love my 4runner but not at that price. I've got 135k on it and it runs fine, no power loss and smooth idle. I've read possible o2 sensor which is way cheaper but I'm no mechanic at all.

Debating on possible trade in if it needs all the work but would rather keep it. Any thoughts would be helpful. Was thinking of possibly starting with cheap parts first like o2 sensor. BTW I've had the lights turned off before and that lasted a year or two but now coming on more frequently.

I know most guys on here like to use "Toyota parts" but that's crazy. Rockauto has catalytic converters for ~$200 range including Bosal's. Unless your bolts are super crusty its a straight forward job(not sure which of your cats are gone). The water pump is also very easy to do and I would not pay 600 for it...
If you are mechanically inclined can very easily be done!

When the lights originally came on took it to a dealership that a family member works at however the dealer was not toyota and no codes were coming up on their diagnostics. They turned lights off and like I said, a year or 2 later they came back on.

Can you get the Freeze Frame Data and maybe scan it/take a picture for us to look at? Where there any other DTCs stored in the memory besides the P0430?

Luckily he doesn't live in California, they've become so stupidly knee-jerk about cat thefts that you almost can't buy anything legally in this state beside factory Catalytic Converters from the dealer.
