Check your power windows!

Not sure if this is common or just my luck, but check the bolts that hold the window regulator to the window if you ever have the door panel off!

My wife called me the other day and said the drivers side window had fallen out of the track, when she got home I found the glass, completely unhooked from everything and laying in the bottom of the door. When I pulled everything apart I could see what had happened. The most rearward bolt for the regulator to glass was completely out and laying in the bottom of the door. The best I can figure is over time the bolt had finally worked it's way out, and when she lowered the window, the remaining bolt pulled the glass down unevenly and that's when everything went berserk! Broke the tab off of the glass, bent the regulator a few different ways, broke one of the clips in the slide, and scratched the heck out of the window tint.







I went to Toyota to see about getting some of the bits and pieces to fix it and of course they said sure, you just have to buy the entire door. :tsk: So I ended up fixing it with some JB Weld after I straightened everything out. So far so good.





So anyway, just a FYI, if your in the door for any reason, check the hardware on he window regular to glass!

You had to buy the entire door to replace the regulator and window glass?

Also, yeah they tend to get loose over time; seems to happen on a few different makes and models with that style regulator.

It was sarcasm more than anything. Seems every time I need a particular part, Toyota wants to sell me an entire assembly. In this case the entire regulator for that plastic clip, and the entire piece of glass for the plastic piece at the bottom. About 600 in parts.

My driver window was making a weird noise every time I moved it up or down. I opened the door panel and found those bolts were backed out, almost all the way. I tightened them up and haven't had a problem since. Not sure if the PO had the panel off or what but if you hear a noise, def worth investigating. Ounce of prevention and what not.

Now you've got me scared to put my window down! My DS window has been a tad loose all winter but was waiting for warmer weather to tighten up those screws. Thanks for posting up the details and pics.

I can understand that, but Toyota's not the only one who does that. Everyone does for the most part, its mainly because most of those components are made as assemblies, the regulators are boxed as what you see there and the clip is molded to the glass before shipping.

Its just how its done these days, you're lucky you can still get contact kits from Toyota for their starters! I'm surprised they didn't just drop them so customer's wouldn't have the option of rebuilding their starters.

That probably wouldn't hurt to be honest.

Yea, all the manufactures do it, and I do understand the reasoning, it would just be nice to find some of the "smaller" pieces some time. LOL

I would definitely use some thread locker on those bolts, just for some extra piece of mind.
