Anyone heard a V6 4.0L with a Cherry Bomb Muffler?

Flowmaster 40 maybe...
Well, I want to hear the exhaust. The factory exhaust on my 2004 V6 is just about silent.
Can't really afford the whole Borla cat back right now, so I'm thinking of going with a Flowmaster 40 series universal muffler, or Cherybomb, but not sure how they'd sound, or if it would interfere with the warranty coverage.

If you cut off the muffler and put an aftermarket muffler it shouldn't void the warranty. The muffler is basically there to make the exhaust quiet and peforms no other real function.

:iagree: Don't go with the Cherry bomb everyone will hear you from a mile away coming. Save up your $$$$ and get the Borla.

Why make noise????
It seems that every f*cking truck here in Texas has straight pipes. Make them more Harley-like, a lot more noise but still slow.

One of the things that attracted me to the 4Runner was how quiet it is. When I am in the middle of nowhere, like the National Forest or BLM lands, the last thing I want is to listen to a noisy engine. I can easily hear the low level rumble of the V8 when I am on the gas. The rest of the time it is silent. Perfect for my ears, which would rather hear music.
Noisy exhaust sound is always with you, and bugging the hell out of everybody else. Not me, I would rather use the 4Runner for what it was designed for. That is exploring the backcountry of this wonderful country.
However, I do understand that there is a percentage of the population stuck in an adolescent rut; blue lights (with the associated glare in the eyes of oncoming traffic), noisy exhaust (that only appeals to the noise maker), and booming music (which is merely loud bass loaded sound - - hardly musical). What's next? How about air shocks to bounce up and down like the lowriders.

Well, RL, I don't think that someone that wants to hear the growl of an engine, would necessarily be considered 'stuck in an adolescent rut'. I'll agree with you on the blue headlight issue. Yes, they can be tough on oncoming drivers, and the vehicles that shake neighborhoods, with the beat of rap music, are obnoxious to say the least. I also wouldn't really appreciate a 4Runner with the lowrider bouncing air shocks you suggested might be next.
BUT, there are a lot of mature people out there, that consider the sound of an engine's exhaust, music to their ears.
I can't imagine going to the auto races, and not hearing the beautiful sounds of those engines.

come over my house and I'll crank the LT1 Vette up with flowmasters on it and you'll hear a symphony

I could probably be happy with the Flowmaster 40 series. Supposedly, it has the least number of baffles inside.
Have you heard one on a 4Runner?
I'm just not used to driving a vehicle that is SO silent. Even my Chevy Z71 5.7 liter pickup makes a nice sound, and it's all factory stock.
When I test drove the 4Runner V8, it sounded nice and had a nice growl when you gave it some gas.... although I know a V6 will never sound like an 8.

The old lawyer adage is appropriate in this discussion regarding exhaust sound. During the Dakar race there was no sweeter sound than that make by the V6 Mitsubishi engine in their carbon fiber Dakar cars. There a hearty sound level is expected and appropriate. Around the race track the roar of the tuned engines adds to the sense of excitement. In the middle of the National Forest, in a neighborhood at 6AM, commuting to work, and most other places, loud exhaust noise is just that noise.
