CHIP and LBJ grease boot protector

My neighbor installed a CHIP into the MAF sensor. Installation was super easy and wonder how this works and what it does to the MPG.

While I am with his truck I looked at the LBJ and saw a plastic shield to protect the grease boot.

That almost looks like a couple cent resister in a fancy plastic case. If that "chip" is what I think it is, I would avoid it.

My 98 didn't haven those lbj protectors but my 02 does. The 02 also had a small skid plate in front of the fuel tank that my 98 didn't have. mmmm.....chips

Yeah, stay away from all "chips". If toyota could improve their performance with a few cheap electrical components, believe me they would. Every one of those things is snake oil.

I have seen those plastic shield around too. I bet they were added in response to the LBJ failures that are so common on these things. Try to keep dirt out of the boot so they don't wear so fast.
