chip up grade

has anyone had the preformance products chip installed in there vehicles yet? Its susposed to add 13 hp. im thinking of this up-grade but would like to know if anyone has anything good or bad to say on it.

I'd stay away from chips. Smoke and mirrors IMO

Dont get one of those offbrand ones on ebay...they do ABSOLUTELY nothing...if you get one, its gotta be the real one that costs quite a bit $100+ and those are sposed to be great but i dont have any experience on a 4runner yet...

I've been seeing chips on the market for over 15 years and the only time I've seen them work on is factory turbo cars and even then there's cheaper mods to achieve the same thing with.

I'd avoid the whole idea and don't get sucked into the throttle body spacers either.

Don't upgrade chips void the warranty? That's what I heard anyway.

I agree with the statements above regarding avoidance. I've heard only the uber expensive ones that are professional installed (more money) actually increase performance.

Doesn't matter how much you pay a chip can only make so much power on a naturally aspirated engine and even with a chip and alot of dyno time you might still only see 10-15whp which is crap for the money. Can't just make horsepower by tuning without adding more air flow and fuel.

I put an aftermarket chip from a well regarded tuner in my 1990 911 and dynoed it before and after. It shifted the torque curve a little bit but there was no peak hp improvement. There wasn't a driveability improvement that I could discern either, so I'm no fan of these chips.

There have been normally aspirated vehicles in the past that have benefited significantly from a non-customized chip upgrade, but I think that is rare today (excepting turbocharged engines).
