Choice of radiators

What brand is better apart from OEM? I replace radiator's every 5 years to avoid the milkshake. So I think anything cheap should work. but want to hear from the others because my runner is very important to me!

Core thickness many are 1 inch (I think this is the standard). Thicker the better.

Thanks

The following got 1.25 inch thick core ( i like this one and the seller seems to be nice and he measured the thickness and it is 1.25 inch)

cashmoney, do you mean trans cooler and by-pass the radiator? I have an aftermarket cooler but it is in-line with the radiator.

Now that I found a thicker core (1.25 inch), I feel like buying it.

If you have the factory OEM radiator, can some one please measure it's thickness? I have an aftermarket and is 1 inch thick.
Thanks

Yes, by pass the radiator. I don't have any data to prove my thought but I can't help but think even doing the double cooling you aren't getting enough benefit (if any) to justify using both coolers and continue to spend a $100 every 5 years just to avoid a potential failure. Just my way of thinking on the matter.

Plus it doesn't get cold enough to ever have warming issues in Los Angeles or Louisiana, which ever you are from, that's the main reason why people keep it hooked up.

If you're that concerned about cross-contamination, just remove the point of cross-contamination. What if you install a "new" radiator that has quality issues and fails anyway?

What prompted me to do the coolant flush with a new radiator is some sort of residue that is on the radiator cap. A close inspection shows the top tank have some sediments.
All cost about $100 with red Toyota coolant, so it is not so bad.

In nissanh's defense, B&M and TruCool on their instructions do say to keep it connected to the stock radiator. However, most of us are doing it to protect the transmission so that would defeat the purpose of putting a cooler on in the first place.

I bought a Denso radiator from Amazon. It looks well made, and so far no problems, but it doesn't come well packaged, and very prone to damage. Otherwise, the radiator itself looks as good as the OEM.

I also ordered this one off of Amazon. I will post my reviews next week when I get it in.

Yeah, I too saw many reviews where the denso radiator's got broken nipple.

Anyone got the factory radiator and it's thickness?

I got the Spectra radiator off Amazon recently and it's good. I'm just running a B&M tranny cooler and bypassing the radiator, I just went on a roadtrip where it was over 100F out and in the winter it commonly gets to -30F and never had an issue with it being bypassed in hot or cold climates--just for a reference point, since I agree with cashmoney.

I would bypass if I were you. Being in LA maybe go with the slightly larger cooler than the one in the popular write up here. I wish I had gone with the slightly larger one. I may switch it out eventually, but the highest I've ever seen was 212 for just a short period of time climbing a hill. Other than that it never goes over 200. I'm about to replace the radiator just for peace of mind with a new OEM Toyota ~$200. I figure after 14 years and 175k miles the original one saw a good life. I should be good to 350k now.

Thanks

I got a measurement of 1.958 inches for top tank thickness, and 1.095 inches for core thickness.

I suppose you have factory (OEM) radiator. The one I bought, the Denso says it is 1.25 inches thicker which I think is better for cooling.

Thanks again!

I bypassed my radiator. According tot he B&M I installed , it has some kind of magical fin in the top row that only allows the fluid to flow through the rest of the cooler after it is up to temp, bypasses all those tubes and just goes straight to the outlet pipe when cold

B&M model number?

Do you happen to know the model number? or at least a picture

Thanks
