I was one of those people, and purchased a new '13 Trail with NAV and KDSS for $34,750. including the $2,000. rebate. However the rebate only applied to Northern California, and is no longer being offered.
chmura, Hoss is the forum member you're talking about from Austin, Texas. He flew to San Diego because that was the nearest Mag Grey Trail he wanted. No rebate for him in SD, but he still got a great deal right at about $37,000. with NAV and KDSS.
I think the OP should try to buy new for sure, even if it means increasing the budget a couple thousand dollars. Having a full warranty and starting the odometer fresh is worth at least that much !

Thread was too long and didn't read it all but I walked out the door with a '14 trail with nav, running boards, kdss, and the slide out back for 35k plus 1500 for tax. It was worth it to me to have a brand new one. I'd say go for a new one if it's in your budget and you can talk them down.
I just did a quick check and Frank Toyota in San Diego, where Hoss got his Grey Mag, still has a black Trail with NAV and KDSS. List $40,970, advertised at $37,238.
There's also a silver Trail with KDSS, NAV, and all weather floor mats near you at Priority Toyota in Richmond, Va. Stock #1139539. However they only give a list price of $40,945. and if the rebate does still exist, it's not valid for Richmond.
Boone, NC isn't too far from you and they've got a black Trail with an odd sticker price of $41,313. KDSS, NAV, all weather mats, and something called Southeast Toyota Distributor. It's stock #26905.
Voss Toyota near Dayton, Ohio has a black Trail list at $41,030. Stock #T5652
Lastly back nearer to your home there a place called Antwerpen Toyota in Clarksville, MD. with a loaded Silver Trail with chrome exhaust tip, wheel locks, carpeted mats, KDSS, and NAV, with a sticker of $41,156.
I think you should at least try working a deal on a new one and see what happens. Worst case scenario it doesn't work, but you know what possible and they either meet your needs or they don't.

I was in the exact same position as you (the OP) a few weeks ago when I found a 2013 TE w/nav and KDSS with 10,000 miles, for about the price of a new base SR5. Seeing it next to the 2014 made it a no brainer, since I cannot get used to that new front end. So, I scooped it up.

It is hard to believe you got the '14 Trail with the options you are listing for 35K. From edmunds.com, invoice is $36.5K, not including the advertising fee (which is an additional $700-800 in some states).
Base Invoice Price - $32,868
Sliding Deck Rear Cargo Board - $312
Display Audio w/Navigation and Entune - $521
Rigid Running Board - $307
Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System - $1,558
Destination Fee - $860
Total Price - $36,426
Now, are you 100% sure you have KDSS? :spy:
$1500 under invoice for a new 4R may not be that difficult to find in SoCal. Your deal will heavily depend on market and nego skills.

I'm 100% sure it has KDSS. I had 5 dealerships bidding on each other. The MSRP was above $39,000 and they had a deal for $37,500 and I had another dealer offering my $35,000 but the wrong color so they matched it and had the color.

Once again, thanks for all the replies guys!
While I know TRE's aren't a dime a dozen I think I'm going to take my time and give a lot of thought to what pops up on the market.
Ducmonsta makes a valid point, I do have a tendency to mod my vehicles down the line so I'm going to narrow my search down to 3 possibilities;
1.) a new '14 Trail edition w/o the KDSS to keep the price down.
2.) a used low mileage '12-'13 non-KDSS TRE. These seem the most plentiful and I'd save quite a bit over the price I expected to pay......and put that towards mods.
3.) a gently used '12-'13 with KDSS, Nav, and sunroof with nice low mileage.
I think option 3 is probably what is right for me when I'm truly honest with myself, though will be the hardest to find.
My truck may sell this weekend so I can really get serious w/ my searching soon. Autotrader seems like it has the most ads but I'll keep an eye on cars.com, edmunds, and any other places you guys suggest.
Once I narrow my options down to a few vehicles I'm sure I'll be needing everyone's opinions! Thanks you all again!!

Thought I would update my search thread. My truck is finally sold, had to hold out for a little while longer than I hoped but ended up getting what I wanted for it. To be safe I need a signed contract on my house but I'm more or less financially in the hunt now for my T4R.
That being said I've been following many of the new buyer threads on here and mulling over between new and used. For the life of me I cannot find a T4R w/ KDSS either used, and CERTAINLY, not new to test drive. I don't know what it is but like other users are experiencing new TE premiums seem to be extremely rare and the used ones don't seem to be the KDSS equipped variant.
I've test drove a few both new and used Runner's to compare and honestly have to say I kinda lean toward the new one. In order to find a used one with the options I want I'd be having to fly out to make the purchase. Aside from the plane ticket and fuel driving home, purchasing a used vehicle site unseen is a bit nerve racking and makes the couple thousand worth while on a new one.
Anywho, hope to report back sooner than later as a proud new owner of a standard T4R TE.

Just wondering, was that from a local dealer, even around a say 100 mile radius?
I've been looking hard around the Northern VA/DC/MD area and can barely find a non premium/KDSS TE for 37K or less.
Originally thought a sunroof was a deal breaker but if I decide to go new I'm pretty sure I could live without it.

You won't find one around here for less than that. Koons tried to get me to order one from them. Instead I had Alexandria do a search along the entire Eastern half of the US and found exactly what I wanted 9 hours away, TE Premium w/KDSS for 36.9k out the door, and the sunroof came std.

Thank you very much for the input! I was hoping someone from the NOVA area in a similar situation would chime in.
Can't say I'm to surprised. I had hoped to justify buying new by finding one locally and avoid the expense of traveling to get it and driving home,but options around this area sure are limited.
Anyways, thanks for the input. Something more to think about. I've had buyers remorse in the past if a little more $$ saves me from that it might be worth it. Life's getting to a point where I've gotta be pretty darn certain on this vehicle.

I purchased mine from Rick Hendrick Toyota in Apex NC. Just got it this past Saturday and did a True Car form to get the lowest price. A dealer about 10 miles away was cheaper but they price matched and Rick Hendrick Dealers offer a lifetime warranty on the engine/drivetrain/4x4 for as long as you own the vehicle.

No problem. If you find the one you want, just talk to the dealership, and let them know you'll be traveling quite a distance to pick it up. Time it right and have them pick you up from the airport. All it cost me was a 1-way airline ticket on an off day and was right around $120, much cheaper than shipping the vehicle (quotes were over $700). Since the dealership paid for the first full tank of gas, it didn't cost me anything but time, which I used to get acquainted with my new vehicle.

Yup! That's petty much what I've been planning considering the supply of TE's in northern VA. I initially thought I had decided on a low mileage '12 or '13 but the price difference really doesn't seem to be a heck of a lot and honestly I'd find it a lot less stressful traveling to purchase a new vehicle over even a gently used certified one.
Going to keep my options open though and hope to have report back as a new owner sooner than later!!
