Chrome cargo tie-downs loops

So I have had some interest on how I did the tie-down loops in the cargo area; well here ya go.
WARNING this process is super simple and cheep

I got tired of the useless cargo net tie-down nubs and wanted to have a more stout option for securing not too heavy items to the side of the cargo area.

bought two sets of these:

They are truck bed tie-downs which have a removable rectangle base. The bolt diameter fits nicely in the stock cargo-net nub holes without mods.

The bolt is way longer than required, I suppose one could cut them down, but they fit behind the panelling just fine so I left mine original length.

took them apart, kept only loop, bolt and expanding nut.

I used a washer between loop and panelling and done..easy

Since the hole goes through not just the plastic panelling but also the metal the panelling is secured to it is quite hearty.

The only PIA part is the further forward one on the passenger side.
because how it is placed with respect to the rear sub area (or storage box depending if you have the upgraded JBL with rear sub or not) is very hard to get in behind to fit the nut to the bolt. It is possible, however, depending how bad you want that one.

I'm glad you all are finding it useful. I use them all the time. I always have emerg gear and winter gear and off road stuff back there. It's nice to not have it shifting around all the time.
Especially when I have the dog back there. Good to know stuff wont be falling on him or rolling into his space, he hates that...

One of those super easy and cheep but constantly useful mods that looks not too bad to boot.

Something like this might be interesting but they are 4" in diameter so you'd have to find other spots to secure them? Maybe 4 on the floor and 4 on the sides?

They are a little different but I like those. I think if I had that round base option I would have gone that way. With the round base I would not have had to use a washer. Those also don't seem to stick out as far. The ones I used were more like the 2nd one you listed with the rectangle base. I just took what the store I was in had. Like them...do it.
I think the ones with the movable D ring would work as long as the base isn't too wide for the spot where they are going. hard to tell their size in the pic. I just think the chrome ones look better

EDIT: oh sorry you said they are 4". Ya wouldn't fit in those spots. Else where is possible. Depends where you want your tie down spots. There are also stock tie-downs in the 4 corners of the cargo area that I use and the Child restraint d-rings on the back of the seats I also use. For me that covers most all areas I need. However something along the side roof line above the back side windows would be a good place to put some...

I was wondering from your pictures if those stuck out enough to bother anything...also wonder how far those with the round base stick out too? A smaller foldable D ring sounds interesting but those could possibly rattle since they pivot?

I suppose the d-rings could potentially rattle. Could potentially "Pinch" them up a bit somehow to make them tighter if needed.

The loops do stick out a bit. I did think about that after the instal. However, I have yet to run into any issue where they were "in the way". I suppose if they did end up in the way they are super easy and fast to take out if needed. Really they have been nothing but useful for me.

I have even used a ratchet strap (gently assertively...as I like to say) on them to hold 6 five gallon water jugs in there so when I went to take them out and opened the back gait after driving it kept them from rolling out and taking me out at the knees...Unfortunately it's happened ...ugh

2022 revival of this thread. I installed these as well and wish I would have done this years ago. The chrome tie down with ROK Straps makes the cargo shelf actually useful.

What I did:

I installed the chrome tie-down points as described earlier in this thread. The passenger side one is a bit annoying. I used the instruction from this thread to remove the panel and install the tie-down. I do not have the JBL system, so I just have the storage compartment there. I followed most of the steps, but I was able to get the panel pulled away far enough that I could reach up through the cargo area, behind the panel, and install the hook. I left the black plastic part on for the upper tie-downs. I installed without those black plastic pieces, and it would look nicer, but the bolt ended up pushing out the body panel and slightly cracking the clear coat/paint. If I do it again, I would get a washer or two the size of the tie-down to stop the bolt from touching the body.

The ROK straps are awesome. I like that they have some stretch, but can be opened without disconnecting from the tie-downs. Really makes the upper shelf useful.

The anchor points I bought for the ceiling are ok. I think a D-Ring or something similar would be better, but I bought these on a whim and don't really have a good use for them yet. I will use the drivers side ones to hold a fishing rod using that cord I have on in the pictures.
