Very nice build. I'm still on the fence about the fender flares, but they look great contrasted against the red. I agree with you on the spare tire carrier. One of my good friends has a Tacoma that has ALL of the mods and one was the high clearance bumper from CBI. He actually removed the swing out due to problems when camping in tight wooded areas, also the overall length of the swing out was ridiculous. Several times the swing out created problems when we were selecting camping spots. We also did a bunch of bike trips...and after opening that damn swing out 1000 times, he knew it was time to remove it. I've also seen guys at ski resorts/trailheads (where parking is STUPID) who couldn't open their rear hatch because the person had parked too close to them.

Well put Jake. Usage should dictate decisions. i have zero doubts about my decision not to get the swing out, carry on with greatness chudiddy.

A few more updates:

So I said I wasn't going to lift it but the mod bug got the best of me. Ended up getting this Toytec lift kit. `Before I got the lift kit, I went with BFG All Terrain KO2's in 275/70/17.

Here it is in it's current state and I think I am finally happy with the stance and suspension setup. As others have stated a millions times, this is how it should have came from the factory (as far as the lift goes). I was able to sell the 275's for exactly what I paid for them and got 285/70/17 KO2's and I think it came out perfect. No spacers and more importantly, no rubbing at all. I couldn't be more happier. Enjoy the pics!

A couple of questions for you. Just to be sure that I'm understanding clearly, the top pic is 275/70 without the lift kit and the bottom is 285/70 with the lift kit, correct? Or, is the lift installed in both photos?

Does it feel at all sluggish with the 285s? I had a Tacoma that I lifted and did 285s on and it was so painfully sluggish afterwards that I just couldn't bear it and ended up down sizing. How about the 275s, any appreciable difference in pick-up/acceleration there?

How's the ride/comfort with the Toytec lift kit, any noticeable difference over stock?

I can list at least 20 occasions when I've needed a reinforced bumper but no need for a spare tire carrier...for example trying to turn around on a dead end trail. If I had a rear bumper with spare tire carrier it would have (in some way) decreased the likelihood of me turning around, however if I had a solid rear bumper, I wouldn't have the scratches and scrapes from smashing my ass end into trees and rocks.

I'm 100% certain the owners of the vehicles below chose function over form!

Well said and my thoughts exactly. I too was on the fence about the Fender Flares but I did get the black hardware in and swapped that out. It looks 100% better now and love the look. I can't wait to see the end result. Here is a little teaser of one with the black hardware.

I am hoping to have this completed within the next few days. Unfortunately, it's a matter of finding time between full time job and family to work on it.​

Both pics are lifted, just different tire sizes. It def feels a little sluggish with the 285's but thats more the fact that the BFG's in that size are E-rated and are heavy as heck but oh man do they fill the wells nicely. With the addition of the fender flares, the stance became a little whacked so I ordered some Spidertraxx to correct that. I am really excited to see how they look with the spacers on.

I will say that once I got the truck back lifted, I noticed an immediate difference in the ride/comfort. I LOVED it, i remember saying that this is the way it should have come from the factory. Not sure how else to describe it other than it just felt more responsive. You def feel the difference in height. Now I had the 275's at that time and I will admit that once I got the 285's on, I def felt a difference in the acceleration and the weight. Oh and also the gas mileage but if you are at all concerned about acceleration and gas mileage then you are driving the wrong vehicle.​

Yeah, I am really not all that concerned about acceleration/speed, it's just that the difference the 285s made on my Tacoma was so incredibly drastic that it just made the truck unenjoyable to drive. Granted, the Taco was starting out underpowered to begin with but still, the difference was incredible. So I just want to mitigate that a bit on the 4Runner....until the SC comes out in 2025. Haha.

Also not concerned about the mileage.

I went straight from factory to lifted with 285/70/R17's and although noticeable the loss of zip was way less than I thought it would be. This 4.0L has plenty of power. Way better than lifts/tire adds back in the 22R days!

So I am looking into getting the toytec 2' lift for my 16' TRD PRO. Just wanted to know how you liked them? I keep hearing many things so I am trying to get as much feedback as possible before jumping the gun on em... Got any advice for me?

If you want to maintain the factory suspension components then 1 million percent jump on this kit. I love it. I loved it the minute I got into it. To me it feels more responsive, perhaps it's the higher center of gravity but it just feels so much better on the road. The 285's make it a little sluggish but that is of no concern to me. If I had to do it all over again, I would do the same thing every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Hope that helps.

That puts a huge smile on my face! Plus the fact that you say maintain the suspension is awesome. Reason why I say that is because I heard that by putting this lift on it would wear our the TRD PRO suspension system quicker.. I am guessing that is BS..

I still want to do a few more things and I should be done with it. I am going to swap the 2 LED bars with the Midnight Series for a more stealthy look, add Alley lights to each side, fender flares, and quite possible the rear CBI bumper without the swing out. And finally the supercharger when TRD releases it in the year 2025. LOL​

This is the same lift/rack combo I am looking at doing this spring. Any way you can give me a measurement from the highest point to the floor? Im curious if I can squeeze it in my garage before I start ordering parts next week. :hail:

Everything is just about complete. Just need to wire up the rear bumper leds and install the spacers. Should have him back on the road later today or tomorrow.
