Clarify Tundra caliper question.

Planning the brake conversion on my 2002 Limited and have done lots of research but can’t seem to find consistent answer to this: Will the 231mm Tundra calipers clear my stock 16”, 5-spoke wheels without modification? If not, I’ll install the 199’s.
Also, if anyone has lately come across good deals on the parts needed, feel free to share.

From what I've seen, the answer is yes (assuming you mean Tundra, not Tacoma).

If they're the same dimensions as my 5spoke then they will with actually a comfortable amount of room.

Yes. 231mm will fit on those (aka "coke bottles").

I had those on my truck when I did the 231mm Tundra conversion. Later got Method's.

That’s good news. We are not short of mountains and steep grades around here so any improvement in braking efficiency is welcome.

I'm sure you were already planning on bleeding your brakes but if you werent I'd suggest getting some fluid. Some folks on here claimed they had to bleed their brakes 4 times. (Doesnt sound right to me) but I bled mine once due to having air in the system after the fresh caliper install and I had bubbles for quite some time during the bleeding process. However not large in the rear i did have small bubbles and bled untill absolute solid liquid. In the front huge pockets of air came out of those fresh new calipers (obviously) and also bled untill completely solid fluid with no little bubbles. All in all I used two large bottles of the Lucas DOT3 fully synthetic. Hope this helps! Congrats on the new upgrade!

It's helpful to know how much fluid to have on hand - thanks.
 
I used my Motive bleeder when I did mine, made it super easy. I replaced the lines with SS ones at the same time, so I introduced a lot of air into the system.

Yeah that's awesome, I reaaaaaaaally want stainless steel lines. Where did you get yours?

me too,, new calipers, stainless up front and the one in back, so introduced lots of air
motive bleeder
synthetic fluids

I got russel stainless steel lines from summit, might have paid a bit high at the time, have seen cheaper since

I did mine last weekend but after reading this I feel like I should go bleed my brakes again. I only noticed bubbles when I got to my last wheel(driver side front). Brakes seem to be working good and pedal feels solid though. I think I only went through about 16 ounces of fluid.

If your brakes are fine I wouldnt worry about it too much. I just didnt want to go through the process twice so I waited untill absolutely solid fluid came out haha

I took a fine wire wheel on an angle grinder to them and stripped them down to complete silver. Took about 15 minutes per rim. (And some beer) I did inside and out. Then I primed them with Rustoleum grey primer in a taller than usual stainless steel rattle can and then finished with outdoor rustoleum gloss black protective enamel and center caps I used a rustoleum metallic spray can also primered before hand. I appreciate it!! I also have my front emblem painted the same metallic and plan on doing all the emblems if the paint holds up well which it has so far.

They fit. 231's are the way to go. As others stated, take your time bleeding the lines through the new calipers.
