Class C vs Class E Tires

Hi guys,

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I want to run 275/70/17 KO2 tires but I see this size is only available in class E. The smaller 265/70/17 is available in both class C and class E.

Is there really that noticeable difference in ride quality between the two classes of tires? I've heard some complaints about the E and some say it's not that big of a deal.

What do you think?

I have that exact tire on my 3rd gen. 275 70 17 E rated. Great tire. I notice no difference. Just dont run them at 60psi. I run mine at 40psi.

if you run the correct pressure, I doubt you would notice much difference over a C rated tire.

however, you may notice a difference over the OEM P rated tires, if that's what you will be replacing.

I'd always go with E-rated tires if you ever drive on gravel roads or off pavement...a bit more stiff but that can also be used to aide in on-road manners...Stiff side-walls warrant a slightly stiff ride compared to mushy Cs...but I doubt you'd notice...I hate flat tires and drive hundreds of miles on gravel roads and quarry-spawl roads...with Cs, you'll find yourself on your knees (more)...haha, it rhymes...than again, so does Es...

I'll mirror what others are saying ... I have 275/70/17 KO2's on my '06 and, as long as the pressure is right for the load and situation, you'll feel little difference. Under normal circumstances I run mine at 45 psi

+1, i run 275/70/17 KO2s on my truck (honestly a pavement going DD) and i am very happy with them.

I had the same debate and went with the 265/70/17 C. Got to ride on some Es and they did ride harder, but that wasn't the reason I didn't get them. My bigger concern was the weight. I like my truck to be quick. Also, most of my off-roading is sand and mud. The softer side walls actually help.

I really wanted the bigger 275 so I was torn. Now that the 265s are installed, they look great and I have no regrets.

I got the 275/70/17 KO2 (E) about 6 months ago. They are nice and quiet. Nice on Hwy.
Mileage took a hit. Maybe lost 2 or 3 mpg.

I've used them on the rocks and sand
Aired down to 15 all week on OBX beach vacation, did great.
Tested out the ATRAC on some rocks recently at about 20psi.
Good bit of spin before ATRAC took over, tires did great, not a mark on them.

I had seen some concern online about rain handling. Its been raining solid here in VA Beach for 3 days. Lots of standing water and have no issues at Hwy speeds.

100% recommend.

The e rated tire will be significantly heavier If I remember right the c rated will be 6 ply and the e rated will be 8 ply

An E rated tire is way overkill for our 4runners, drastically heavier so yes you will notice fuel mileage loss and you are not really gaining anything by using them. They are not better off road because they don't flex and you are not putting 2,000 lbs inside your vehicle, E-rated tires are for work trucks 3/4 or 1-ton+ unless you are plowing with your 4runner (alot) or driving around construction sites or junkyards where you are worried about a puncture there is no reason to use E's

Went from C to E KO2s. The Es are unbelievably smooth. Don't believe he hype about a rough ride. If you're concerned about a 2mpg loss - you're driving the wrong car.

I keep mine at 38# and they're smooth as butter at 85.

I had "e's" on my oem 18" and they were fine. lost mileage but that's it. eventually went to 20"s so got rid of them.

Stock size KO 2 (E Load Rating)

I have a 5th Gen TRD Pro in need of new tires. Im leaning towards the Ko2 in E load rating. Interested in any feedback from people who are running stock size KO2s in E load as to what pressure they are running as well as any other feedback (Positive or negative). I’ve read through most of the threads with mixed responses. Looking for some new responses.
