Classics go to Moab?

Fins and Things is 3-4 hours, tops, and literally right outside town. We could easily get that in after you set up camp and before dinner time, which is why I suggested it for Thursday.

But I'm easy. I'm not the type that likes to go-go-go while I'm on vacation, and I'm close enough that I don't need to do All Of Moab in one trip. Besides, I'm sure Helo and I will have lots of fun before you arrive. ;)

Saturday????

TrailDamage.com - Golden Spike

This is probably the most famous trail in the Moab area, with the infamous Golden Crack. It's worth the eleven-hour day just to drive through it. The trio of Poison Spider Mesa, Golden Spike and Gold Bar Rim is known as the "Trifecta" by TrailDamage.com members.

This trail was created to link the Poison Spider Mesa trail to the Gold Bar Rim trail. It is very long and continuously challenging. You start from near to the end of Poison Spider Mesa on some rock fins.

You'll be waiting for me to show up with a winch.

Ok, so just throwing this out there - Helo and I (and Bucknut?) do whatever until Thursday. Thursday afternoon we help FoG and crew set up camp, and then run Fins&Things. Friday we do Hells Revenge and drive out Porcupine Rim, because our passes to Sand Flats will still be good. Saturday we could do Kane Creek, and Strike Ravine on Sunday?

I'd really like to run Poison Spider/Golden Spike/Gold Bar but I'm hesitant to take that on without anybody who's done it before.

Sounds like a plan! I can take slave labor out to Canyonland NP on Sunday.

If things turn around and start cooperating, I'd definitely like to go a bit early, too. Are you planning on staying at Moab Rim before the group reservation starts, or doing something else? Another thing to consider with the Golden Spike trio is navigating--without a guide, we could easily lose our way (according to my guidebook notes, anyway). Plus those are pretty hardcore, and will magnify any shortcomings in equipment. Just some points to ponder.

If the wallet is good, I should be able to stay on through Monday.

Is everyone leaving Sunday or will there be anyone left to wheel with on Sunday and Monday?

If I have my dates right I plan on leaving Monday night and getting there sometime Tuesday , no rush and leave Sunday night probably... I have about a 13hr drive each way.

I am leaving Houston around 1800 Sunday. That will more than likely put Al and I there sometime early Tuesday morning. Plan would be to get set up at a camp, unload the 4Runner and probably hit some light wheeling that afternoon/evening. As far as what trails come the next day, I'm pretty open.

It looks like MP, and I will be there Tuesday, Kid and Bob sometime Wednesday and FoG Thursday? I think I have that right. Anyway below is what I have, if it changes just let me know. I will get all the contact info, travel routes and arrival dates out to everyone right before I head out so we are all in the know. I'm off work Tuesday morning so I could theoretically be in Moab about 1400 Tuesday at the earliest. If Helo and MP are gonna be there too I'll probably plan for that. I'll be leaving Sunday afternoon or evening.

I PMd Ziggs to the yellow courtesy phone - he last logged in on 9/7, so he's not dead or anything, which is a bonus.

Not counting Nate, SVD, or Ziggs, we're right at 5 rigs and 8 heads.

I think somebody artistic should design us a "Classics Go To Moab 2012" logo and upload it to Cafe Press so we can have shirts and stuff.

I just confirmed the reservation at Moab Rim Campark for the evenings of the 10th thru the 14th. It sounds like they'll be willing to extend the $8/night forward or backward as well on a case by case basis (unless they're full), so if you're showing up tuesday night let them know you're with the group reservation and ask if you can get that night for $8 too. :)

Working 7 days a week up till I leave. LOL! Just want to be sure. The joy of my job is that if I want more money, all I have to do is work more.

Aargh! I looked outside today to see what a fire truck was doing in the parking lot, and noticed they were huddled around MY TRUCK! I went out there, and "oh boy", my truck has given me yet another bizarre problem--it's leaking fuel out of its solid, rust-free tank. The fire guys were there because someone called them to prevent a fire (it wasn't THAT bad, just a slight drip). I felt around on the top of the tank, and I think the seal for the sending unit is seeping--that's the opening towards the front of the tank, where the tank is shorter, and anything above half full keeps fuel against the bottom of it. So it looks like I need to drop the tank and replace the seal. Woohoo. Anybody still think I was kidding about someone not wanting me to take this trip? LOL! It does just fine while being bashed on the rocks, but can't keep its systems running when sitting in a parking lot. Weird.
