cleaned throttle body and holy c**p!!

so today is an amazing day out, so figured i would clean the throttle body, maf, and mess with my deckplate mod.

well found the how to looked it over and such, sounded good. took the air box out first after taking all the connections off. well took the tube that gives air to the motor and just said "holy s**t!!", as you can see from the pic there was a little more than a little carbon build up. this c**p was all over and i had to clean EVERYTHING and went through a can of cleaner and about 30 papertowls and 50 Q-tips... it was sssooo bad...

but got it all done and acts way different now. wants to go more now and did 0-60 in 11 sec and could probably do better.

also shortened the screws on my deckplate mod and silicone it all up, including the 2 holes in the bottom of the box.

:wow2: That looks really oily. More than one would expect to see in the TB. This is way above my pay grade but it almosts looks like you are getting some blow-by of the pistons pushing the crankcase nastiness out the PCV. You may want to do a compression test.

Has anyone else seen this much crud in the TB? please chime in.

yeah i need to do a compression test, its going in the shop soon to get the motor all checked out.

What air filter was in it? I've seen them look terrible with an oiled up air filter. K&N for example.

just an autozone one, not oiled

PCV dumps into the intake after the TB. Don't think that would be it. (above my pay-grade as well though. I have heard of blow-by fouling spark plugs, never heard about it fouling up the TB?)

i didnt know what that was, i guess i did clean what i could but didnt take it off, i sprayed and cleaned down what i could from one hole, seemed to help some. anything like that has a rubber seal sucks because 9/10 times you need to buy new.

yeah I hear ya with those seals. They show they're age on my 2Runner more then anything else. Yeah I guess to clean the IAC you got to take the whole damn thing out.

yeah well its like, its working and all sealed up now, if the seal is broke it may not seal back up good. experience from motocross bikes. im used to bikes that arent as picky, was a little skeptical working on this truck so i took it easy.

so, hows the throttle response?

Would that really affect performance all that much? I mean, it's not like it was blocked or anything, far from it... anyone ever do an objective before/after horsepower test?

it seems to want to go more. did 0-60 in 11 sec, before did it in 14+ sec, sounds better too.

the only thing is when the clutch is all the way in and the shifter is in between gears i feel a vibration in the peddle that wasnt there before as long as i know. may be nothing.

Have you upgraded to the "O" shaped TB gasket yet...? If not, look into it. They're less than $4 from LCE.

The throttle bady gasket is a D shape that partially restrics the airflow through the throttle body. You can get an O shaped one for a couple bucks that is less restrictive.
