Clicking and Grinding after rotors/pads install

Hey all,

I just replaced the pads (Akebono Performance pads) and rotors (Centric) all the way around.

Also bled all 4 calipers with new fluid.

Go to test drive it and i'm getting a clicking from the rear and grinding from the front. I've changed brakes/rotors probably 50 times in the past 30 years on various cars/trucks and have never heard this before.

Went down the street and back and the clicking went from loud to very faint, but is still there. The grinding has not changed. I'm jacking her up again shortly to check for bend in the heatshields...

Any ideas on what these could be?

No, solid rotors.

Just got done checking all the heatshields, all look fine and far away from the rotors.

Jacked up the back end and put her in neutral and hand turned the wheels, the passenger side will hardly budge like the brakes are slightly applied... the drivers side has some resistance but is manageable and you can hear the grinding and clicking.

I pressed the e-brake in and out a few times and it seems to be fine. Tried moving the wheels again and getting the same thing. Do the ebrake pads need to be adjusted because of the new inner coating of the rear rotors?

The side with resistance is suspicious. They should spin freely assuming your don't have the wheels locked via a parking brake, e-locker, diff locked, etc...

I would start cutting the scope of the problem and pull your pads out and see if it still makes the noise. That might eliminate the pads and alignment. If it's still there maybe it's a CV joint going out? Or, I don't think I've actually adjusted an e-brake since the 80's, but check to make sure it's not binding. That will make some noise.

If the noise goes away, make sure everything is aligned and greased up right. In the past I have had to use anti-squeak on sports cars. I would not expect this on a 4runner, although Akibono does make some race pads. Race pads can squeal like a train.

Did you ever figure this out? I'll be replacing my brakes soon and would like to avoid any issues.
