Clifford Alarm Rats Nest?

Hey all, I have a 01 Limited as my DD that I've had for a wonderful 3.5 years. All this sitting around during stay-at-home has reminded me that I've been driving around with a rats nest of an aftermarket alarm under my dash. I had the panel off the other day and really would like to get rid of it.

I can comfortably turn a wrench and have done a good bit to my runner but wiring is totally foreign to me, and I'd love to not start a fire under my dash. Can anyone advise how to get rid of this crap? Is this something I should give a (trusted) shop the reigns on?

I've attached some photos of this garbage for reference (sorry about the shadows). Let me know if any more photos or info would be helpful.

I remove these all the time. Start by cutting off all the zip ties holding the wiring together. Unplug and/or cut off all the aftermarket wiring. Where they stripped back wiring to connect the alarm wires cut the wires a close as possible then used some liquid electrical tape to cover the bare factory wire and wrap it in tape. It's usually pretty easy to tell what is factory and what is alarm.

Early systems like that were typically pretty simple and splice into the starter signal wire out of the ignition and main body harness for the power locks if it had that feature. The rest of it is a self contained harness which was typically not installed very well and is easy to remove. Don't bother trying to save the system, it's not worth installing on anything else. Don't be afraid to chop it out.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your input. Seems like something I can handle. I'll grab some liquid electrical tape and give it a go this weekend. I'll post with any more questions and update when I'm finished. :thumb:

The only challenge you are likely to run into is re-soldering the one large starter wire that will be cut. Basically everything else will be tapped somehow and should be easily removed - just re-protect all those bare wire sections upon removal.
