How would somebody know that other then the Japanese who designed the 4Runner?
My guesses....
It would look funny with just a 72 there . 3 digits looks more classy.
The company that makes the digital readout gauge they source them from only makes them reading 3 digits.
So we can dream of owning a Lexus one day where their's might read out in tenths and think they are really that accurate.
In case it gets stolen and taken to a country that uses the Kelvin and needs the 3 digit readout. 72F=295K
In case it was retrofit into a space shuttle.
So somebody could seriously ask the question on a forum?
Another question that has an answer. Does the Canadian LE's read out in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Celsius and we have .5 degree increments which makes sense as it's a smaller measurement.
Probably done for simplicity as every other country Toyota sells to would likely be metric except for the US. Way to be difficult guys....

Bingo. My guess is that the system isn't accurate enough to alter the temperature by half a degree fahrenheit, but because of the scaling of the metric system it makes sense to have a half degree celsius.
