My Story: Awhile back I really wanted the JDM inclinometer, but they were very expensive. I then saw someone installed a Field Monitor Unit from a Subaru, but after some research and low funds I let it pass. Just the other day I got into an FJ and saw the clinometer and compass which sparked my interested again.
Research: So there are not that many options when it comes to these things. There are plenty of apps for phones and very expensive digital ones. But for a $20 range your left with a liquid type or the Smittybilt/Rugged Ridge. I ended up ordered the Smittybilt one with compass from Summit Racing

First Impressions: Its cheap for a reason. It works well but it is definitely more of a gadget than a tool. I think I would have been just as happy if I had ordered a few liquid type ones, but when I bought it I really wanted the compass feature. However, it is neat to have and matches the interior trim very well. It also adds that person touch.
Pros:

Cheap (the motion is not as fluid as I would have hoped)
No light
Mounting it in a higher location would have been better
Step 1: Find your location. It comes with a bulky mounting pad with sticky tape but I wanted more a stock look. I originally wanted to mount it under the temp gauge/above the rear locker switch. This location provided good visibility, but when I removed the mounting surface that location would have required more drilling to make work. I played around with different spots and ended up on the center counsel for easy of installation and it looked clean down there.
Step 2: With your truck on level ground, find the area where both pitch and roll are centered and mark. Drill the hole using a 1/8th drill bit.
Step 3: When I removed the mounting pad the little nut on the inside came out of its location. The front of the clinometer pops right off. Make sure your on carpet because when it came apart my compass when flying. I had to add a washer to the back side of the plastic counsel and inside the clinometer to get it to secure. You can see that in the pictures.
Step 4: Simply tighten down and reinstall the plastic center counsel.
Don't mind the dust/dirt. I have been out off-roading a lot lately which is great! If you have something similar show it off here! I would like to see the other set ups. I would recommend things if you just want a fun, personal gadget for your vehicle. Its a great cheap way to cure the mod bug. I also ordered 300 ft of green (my 4Runner is Imperial Jade) para-cord to make some handles with.
Total time: 30 minutes.
