Any word on that new model? I heard/saw somewhere else that someone said Spot was coming out with a Garmin rival, for much cheaper.

I really want one of these for upcoming backpacking trips, but holding out to see these new models.

Garmin Tracker monthly fees

Looking through the Garmin website it looks like the device requires a monthly subscription to the satellite service. The fees range from $12, $25, $50 and $80 per month with an annual contract for various levels of service and frequency of use. Has anyone selected a service level and what are the advantages of the levels of service?

You don't need a monthly subscription for GPS itself. The GPS is 100% functional without paying a fee if used solely as a GPS unit.

You need a monthly subscription for the INreach features that come with the GPS.

Yes, the Mini is meant to replace the full size InReach

Yes! It would be the regular and mini. A few months ago, the vendor asked me if I could include the Mini in the next round.

Keep in mind, the Mini is a new product and will probably have a higher premium than the regular.
